California Tunnel Tree.
My Grandpa is visiting for the first time from Peru, and he was fascinated with the sequoias. I noticed that the sap from a sequoia is red and makes an interesting contrast with the wood on the roof of the tree tunnel, details that I hadn't noticed before.

During a bike ride, a friend showed me the memorial and crash site of Lieutenant Birrell. Digging more into what happened, I found that he was a member of the 57th Pursuit Squadron. On October 24, 1941, Lieutenant Birrell was flying a Curtiss P-40 Warhawk as part of a formation traveling from Riverside to Sacramento. Tragically, a dense fog blanketed the region, severely reducing visibility. Despite the dangerous conditions, the squadron commander insisted the pilots continue their mission. The decision proved fatal, as four pilots, including Lieutenant Birrell, lost their lives that day. The site now stands as a somber reminder of the risks faced by early military aviators and the importance of sound judgment in command decisions.
