One of the things I LOVE about yoga is how the ancient teachings help us to navigate how to show up for ourselves today both on and off the mat.

Have you ever found yourself noticing something more around you when you have that thing in focus? It might be that you’re pregnant and then you see more pregnant women. Or that you have a new car and then notice how many types of that brand of car are on the road, or that you’re about to get a puppy and you suddenly notice ALL the dogs!

These are all in our subconscious but with the power of Drishti, you can bring into your life more of what you want to have happen. How powerful is that!!

Drishti in the context of yoga, is a Sanskrit term often referred to as focal point or fixed gaze to help poise or balance in a posture and as a powerful tool to enhance concentration and inner awareness. An intentional focus or Drishti, not only helps align the physical body but also stills the mind, creating a harmonious union between mind, body and spirit.

In the realm of Hindu philosophy, Drishti expands even further into our perception and the way in which we view the world. It acknowledges that our perception of reality is subjective, influenced by our beliefs, emotions and past experiences. In this context, Drishti encourages us to examine our own perspectives and biases help cultivate our understanding of the universe and the interconnectedness of everything.

Drishti invites us to perceive not only with our eyes but also with our hearts and minds, ultimately leading to a better understanding of ourselves and the universe.

Yoga gives you time and space for you. Somewhere you can find a renewal of your energy, a refreshing moment in your weekly schedule and space to just breathe.

In both power yoga classes, you will find stillness as well as that challenge both mentally and physically and pregnancy yoga creates space in both mind and body.

Come and join me in class next week as the autumn schedule returns after the summer break. You can sign up for the 5 or 6-week term or just book an individual class and drop in when you’re able to.

Do you shy away from yoga because you feel like you’re not bendy or flexible or don’t have the ‘right’ body? The so called ‘perfect’ body and the one from magazines?

This quote speaks to me as a reminder to be valued for who I am and that our individualism is our superpower. It also resonates with me as a yoga teacher because so many people don’t come to class because they have a body type barrier in their head (and this has also been me).

Yoga starts with your breath, so if you can breathe you can do yoga.

Yoga isn’t just position and then pose. It can be a moving meditation, lost in the dance and the flow of it all and a chance to still your racing mind.

Yes, it builds strength and flexibility over time of course, but come and breathe well in a class with me for 60-minutes and I’m sure you’ll leave with your spirit lifted and your mind at ease.
