This is a real throwback! I met Joe Baker in the mid 2000s during my undergraduate studies at York University. He was my professor, and during one of his lectures he mentioned the two words: Environmental Enrichment. From that moment, my 🧠 began “Superforecasting” (Tetlock and Gardner) around the area of movement and its relationship with brain health.
It was around this same time my father was thought to have Alzheimer's.
Before completing my double major degree at York in: Health science and Kinesiology & Health and Society, I completed two independent study projects. One of them was with Pr. Baker, and it changed the direction of my educational life. After my first year in university, I was kicked out of my program. As it turns out, Thursday Pub Night took precedence over Friday morning computer science class! I required an extra year to finish my studies, and that included a full summer course load. I was never the smartest kid, I was terrible at multiple choice exams, probably still am today!
But, with Pr. Baker I never had to GUESS, and my annoying questions in class transformed into RESEARCH questions: hypotheses. I loved it, I still do. I've learned a lot from research: there isn't really a "right' and "wrong", if you're "wrong" your publication can help others not fall into the same trap. If you're "right" your question is now a real viable solution with the right group.
I NEVER promote anyone. And Joe does NOT need PR from me. However, I know a lot of people can benefit from his work and specifically his new book: parents, coaches, trainers, and really anyone in the world of Health and Performance if that’s your jam too!
I’ll be linking his book in my stories and links to a couple podcasts that I think do a great and efficient job of scratching the surface of his work in a TIMELY fashion. Buy his book, it's great! I know because I bought it, and am fascinated.
I said this at the end of my wedding speech 🍻!!!
"There's no free lunch, someone has to pay." It's very true in this case. Support people doing GREAT things. Joe Baker is one of those people.
