Difficulty swallowing - suspected sequelae of covid-19?
———————————————
A 50-year-old lady came to see me for treatment. She had always been healthy, but she suddenly felt that her body was not right since August of last year. She felt extreme discomfort in her stomach, due to swelling and clogging, and felt that the food could not reach her stomach while eating. She even said that his belly looked oily. Additionally, she suffered from loss of taste and smell, breathing problems, chest tightness and other symptoms.
Her family doctor thought it should be a covid-19 infection, but after 4 or 5 tests, she did not find COVID antibodies. Her family doctor also found this strange. She said that she had taken many kinds of medicines in the past few months, and would take any medicines as long as the doctor told her to take them. Her current nucleic acid test was negative, indicating that she is safe and can come to the clinic for medical treatment.
Presently, the reason for her visit is that she was that she was extremely tired and felt that her brain was foggy. She felt that her breathing could not reach her lower lungs, her lung capacity has deteriorated, and she had difficulty swallowing. As a result, she was stuck drinking water. She also had poor appetite and felt her neck was swollen, had difficulty falling asleep, and felt her sleep was shallow and low quality. However, the image reports of the family doctor, internal medicine, and otolaryngology department all returned normal. She only had some inflammation of the vocal cord.
Because her main discomfort was difficulty in swallowing and breathing, the acupuncture treatments I used were scalp acupuncture, ear acupuncture, back acupuncture, Dong's acupuncture method and meridian acupoints, especially around her neck, except for the scalp and ear needles. After some consideration, I used acupuncture for thyroid disease for treatment. After all the needles were placed, I ask her to try taking a deep breath. She felt that the air she inhaled reached the lower part of her lungs, and swallowing her saliva felt much smoother. I then requested her to observe the quality of her sleep that night after returning home.
PS. There are currently reports showing the sequelae of this type of swallowing and is indicative of COVID-19.
