Special screening: "The Red Ring" - A journey into the heart of Lyme disease

'The Red Ring' is a thought-provoking and enlightening documentary that explores the heart of a global health problem - chronic Lyme disease - by following the personal odyssey of the filmmaker, Joonas Berghäll. Suffering from chronic Lyme disease and other tick-borne illnesses, Berghäll sets out on a mission to find a cure for his own debilitating condition and expose the reasons behind the widespread inaction and apathy towards this rapidly growing epidemic.

Berghäll travels across continents and meets patients who share their poignant experiences with Lyme disease, alongside front-line doctors, researchers who delve into the complexity of the bacteria and experts who discuss socio-political and economic barriers to effectively tackling the disease.

The documentary shines a light on the profound impact of Lyme disease on individuals, showing the real and often overlooked physiological and psychological consequences. Through personal interviews and compelling stories, "The Red Ring" confronts the scepticism and denial faced by many patients.

The film asks important questions about why Lyme disease does not get the attention it deserves, despite compelling scientific evidence and widespread suffering. Topics such as insufficient funding for research, controversies over diagnosis and treatment and the influence of the pharmaceutical and insurance industries are explored.

'The Red Ring' is not just another film; it is a call to action, urging us to recognise Lyme disease as a major global health problem and to question why sufficient support and solutions for millions of sufferers worldwide are lacking.

Watch the film, share it, talk about it. Let's bring Lyme disease out of the shadows.

💥💥 Lyme Italy Association 💥💥
WEBINAR January 26th, 2024
(English translation in first comment)

Gentilissimi/e,

Cordiali saluti
Il Consiglio Direttivo

Our official LDAA vehicle just got wrapped!

Both the car and the wrap (branded designs) were afforded via a Queensland government grant in 2022, and with the wrap recently completed, we are proud to be able to show it off. What do you think?

One of our key objectives is to "Educate the public and medical sector about the risks of Lyme disease and the need for early diagnosis and treatment (early detection may reduce the risk of the disease turning chronic)" and we are excited to be able to take this message to the streets!

We've already had folks stop to take pictures and make enquiries. (Winning!)

As the concerning global Lyme & co-infections epidemic progresses, we hope that science will progress too and finally unravel the truth on chronic Lyme and so help patients to get the acknowledgment and help they need and deserve.

Debate over the concept of “chronic” Lyme disease has contributed to policies that exclude patients from specialist care. Many, if not most, of these patients e

A survey to expose medical gaslighting globally 👏

This survey of Lyme patients worldwide is being conducted in collaboration with Lamar University and the Texas Lyme Alliance. It asks about your experiences navigating the health care system prior to your (and/or your child's) diagnosis. Completing this survey will help the academy and Lyme advocates learn more about the needs of the Lyme community. It takes only a few minutes to complete.⏱

We've all experienced it. Let's get it out there! 🗣

Infectious diseases consultant publishes tick truths in medical journal

A new article has been published In this month’s Irish Medical Journal by John Lambert, Consultant in Medicine and Infectious Diseases at the Mater Hospital, Dublin. ‘Tick Borne Infections in the EU: A New Epidemic in the Face of Global Warming' discusses ticks carried on migratory birds transferring pathogens across multiple regions.

Noting the limitations in testing, he says that patients are being misdiagnosed with CFS, fibromyalgia, arthritis, simple Bell’s palsy, but many may have atypical neurological, rheumatological or cardiological symptoms... they and their doctors may not consider Lyme as a possible diagnosis. And as ticks carry many pathogens, “it is likely that other tick-borne infections are contributing to patients’ symptoms.”

Dr Lambert observes that “until we have better education for GPs and consultants alike in Ireland on the complexities of tick borne infections, until we have better diagnostics and until we have investment in research funding to improve our understanding of these conditions, patients will continue to be left undiagnosed and untreated.”

There’s more too, about chronic Lyme - Thank goodness for John Lambert speaking up for Lyme patients in Ireland. 💚💚💚

Ticks cause an acute inflammatory disease characterised by skin changes, joint inflammation and flu-like symptoms called Lyme disease
