MECHANICAL VENTILATOR AND HOW DOES IT HELP COVID-19 PATIENTS

Mechanical Ventilator two most important functions are getting oxygen in the lungs and taking carbon dioxide out. In other words, it help patients who are unable to breathe efficiently on their own by way of breathing tube inserted in their airway and then attached to a mechanical support.

COVID-19 makes this most difficult because the lungs are mostly affected, which can lead to pneumonia, which causes the lung to be inflamed and filled with fluid. This makes it very difficult for proper gas exchange which leads to shortness of breath, coughing and the worst; Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS).

Mechanical supports are vital in treating COVID-19 patients but they are not magic, they just keep people alive giving the lungs time to heal. Proper protective gear, isolation and testing are much more important than being on mechanical support.
