Hey all,

Some of you have noticed I’ve been quiet lately. I hope to be back soon but need to take an extended break.

We leave for Hawaii next week for 10 days. Poor hubs has to work but I'm going to be tagging along drinking all the coffee and eating all the açaí and poke bowls! 🥰 I'll take you along in my stories! 🏝 Otherwise, I won't be posting for a while.

I've promised myself no self-improvement books, Podcasts, etc during this time. So, I have a question for you… comment below what are your favorite fictional books?? I haven’t read just for fun in years! I don’t even know where to start! Is that sad? 😂

Feel free to DM me, although, full disclosure, I cannot promise a quick response.

You can also join my free Facebook group at: www.breastcancerempowerment.com where there is a lot of information and resources for you that aren’t available anywhere else.

Take good care of yourselves! 💞

Sending love,
Christy

You may have noticed I’ve been quiet this week. We have been dealing with a very sad family matter and life in general just feels really heavy right now. So I’ve retracted this week as I process these big emotions.
💞
I’ve had to remind myself several times that it’s okay to rest. It’s okay if my to-do list doesn’t get checked off. It’s okay if I don’t post every day on social media or at all this week. It’s okay if I clear my schedule to focus on my mental health. It’s okay if I don’t respond to the text messages or call people back. It was also okay if I didn't make this very post but I think this is something you might need to hear and I feel compelled to share it.
💞
It was engrained in many of us that staying busy will ‘keep our mind off of our problems’ so our tendency when life gets hard might be to dive head first into tasks. There may be times where taking our minds off of something can be useful as it allows us to clear a mental block. But when we busy ourselves to avoid feeling something, what we are actually doing is prolonging the healing process.
💞
I heard someone say “the only way out is through” and I thought that was so profound. Think about it.. resisting
our emotions doesn’t change them… it can actually intensify them. And stuffing them deep down inside doesn’t make them go away…they can and will manifest physically.
💞
One of the most difficult parts of my healing journey has been learning to sit with emotions like
fear, sadness, and grief rather than chasing the next good feeling (or using alcohol to numb them). But I believe it has been the healthiest change I’ve made. Learning to process emotions in a healthy way does more good for us than green juice ever could! (but don’t get me wrong, I ❤️ green juice, too!)

Xx,
Christy

Do you have “bra’blems” post mastectomy? (I learned that word from last night and it stuck! 😄)

Women often ask me what bras I like to wear post-mastectomy. I shared some of my favorite bras in the Facebook group today. Check them out here —> www.breastcancerempowerment.com (link in bio).

And I know what my “bra’blems” have been but they may be different than yours. So I’m super curious, what are you looking for in a bra post-mastectomy or what “bra’blems” do you need to solve? Drop them in the comments or DM me. I might be able to help!

We don't gain physical strength/muscles without using/exercising them. We don't gain emotional strength without using those muscles either. Building muscles of any kind will result in some pain along the way. 💞

Have any of your doctors made you feel inferior? I "fired" several doctors when I was looking into treatment for I use the word "fired" because it was more than me simply seeking out another opinion...I made a definitive decision that I would not return to them under any circumstances. I met more than a few doctors who did not respect me as an individual at all and/or were condecending to me because I was making choices about my care that went against what they thought I should do. While I appreciated their professional opinions and welcomed their point of view, it is my firm stance that we are the CEO of our bodies.. only we know what we need and what we are willing to go through and allow when it comes to our bodies. Period.
💞
Firing those doctors, as it turns out, made way for me to find some of the most amazing & supportive doctors! They are out there. But there are some things to consider before doing this so I want to dive a little deeper into this topic this week.
💞
But for now, can we just pause and give props for this mic drop quote from Mrs. Roosevelt?!
💞
If you are someone who struggles with setting boundaries and/or speaking up when your needs or expecations are not being met, this quote might feel more triggering than empowering. If that is the case, give yourself grace and recognize that is revealing an area you may need to heal and/or strengthen.

Let me start by clarifying - I am not a home organizer, or minimalist coach! I just know what works for me and what I’ve helped others achieve. Everything I know I’ve learned from the pros! I’ll link a couple of sources below that I get inspo from. 🔽

I can’t stress enough how much mental and emotional energy clearing clutter frees up!

Ready to shift your energy? Here are some ideas to get you going:

↪️ Start with a small project. Often when we resist doing something it’s because we feel overwhelmed. Completing a small organizing project will give you a boost of positive energy and you just might find that it creates a snowball effect and/or you’ll be ready to tackle a bigger project!

↪️ If you are going through treatment or recovering from surgery, don’t be shy about asking for help! So often our friends and families want to help us and they just don’t know how. So the next time your friend says, “what can I do to help you” is there a pile of laundry she could fold? A stack of mail she can help you sort? Maybe a box or a drawer she can sit with you and go through? There is no reward for doing it all ourselves and asking for help is not weakness!

↪️ When deciding what to keep, I love the Marie Kondo method of asking yourself “does this item spark joy”? I used this method recently when I tackled my closet (pictured) and dresser. Pictured is my half of what is clearly a very small closet. I don’t have space for the clothes that I “might wear someday”. I don’t have space for the clothes that don’t make me feel good. So if I hadn’t worn it pre-pandemic and I’m not excited to wear it post-pandemic, it was bagged up for Good Will. The items I love but don’t fit right now (but will soon enough because- goals ☺️) I put it in a bin for future. I recommend doing this even if you have room for the items. Looking at the clothes every day that don’t fit us right now longing to be that size is not the energy we want to bring!

Do you have other tips to get motivated to purge and organize? Drop them below! Where do you get stuck when clearing the clutter?

If you are healing from and are hyper-focused on diet & nutrition, you are missing many valuable pieces of the puzzle that make up a happy, healthy, thriving life after cancer!

What does clutter have to do with any of this? Well, I am convinced that having an organized and tidy home is a form of self-care. And self-care is a critical component of healing and thriving after your diagnosis. It’s not a luxury, it’s a necessity.

If it’s true that how we do one thing is how we do everything (a concept I learned in coaching school that blew my mind!), then if our home is messy, chaotic, untidy, unorganized… are there other areas of our life that are as well? For example, people who embrace being “messy” in their homes might notice their relationships are also a bit (or a lot) messy, their appearance might be messy, their car is messy, etc.

I use that as an example not to judge anyone who might be messy, but to illustrate how easily embracing a belief in one area of life can impact other areas.

On the flip side, tackling a small purging/organizing project can create a domino effect where we feel so energized and renewed by organizing one space that we quickly move to another space, and then another…

Is there an area in your physical space that needs your attention? Tackle it and see how much better you feel! Have trouble getting started? Later this week I’ll post some ideas to get you going and share some resources that might be helpful!

💞
I learned so much from Carly these past couple of weeks about cosmetic and paramedical tattoos and I can’t wait for her to share it all with my group of thrivers.
💞
Carly is a kind and beautiful soul! You will see the passion she has for her for work shine through as she explains how she helps survivors reclaim their confidence by giving us back a part that is often taken the during mastectomy process. She is the kind of artist I would encourage all women to seek out and I’m excited for you to get to know her!

We’re going live on Thursday (2/3) inside my private Facebook group and we’d love for you to join us! Request to join here: www.breastcancerempowerment.com (link in bio)
