Ladies, eat your protein, fat, and fibre!

Do you experience cravings? Constantly snacking? Always hungry? Try including these things at every meal and snack.

This is the wonderful combo to help you feel full and satisfied; and to stabilize blood sugar levels. Low blood sugar tends to induce cravings.

Choose lean proteins; whole grains, produce, and legumes for fibre; and avocado, nuts, seeds, and olive oil for healthy fats.

Ultra-processed foods have a place in our lives, however, these foods tend to digest quickly leaving you hungry for more. Remember: I said โ€œlimitโ€ not โ€œeliminateโ€. Enjoy those foods and use it as an opportunity to listen to your body!

Most Canadians eat too much salt. Sodium, which is the main ingredient in salt, is needed by our bodies in certain amounts. But too much sodium can lead to health problems like high blood pressure, stroke, heart disease and kidney disease. Eating less sodium can help you and your family stay healthy and feel your best. Even if you donโ€™t have high blood pressure, you can still benefit from lowering the amount of sodium you eat.

All salt, whether it's table, kosher, sea salt or pink himilayan, still contains the same amount of sodium.

By making healthier choices when grocery shopping, cooking at home and eating out, you can help lower the amount of sodium you and your family eats while lowering the risk of health conditions linked to high sodium intakes.

Emotional eating is eating as a way to suppress or soothe negative emotions, such as stress, anger, fear, boredom, sadness and loneliness. Major life events or, more commonly, the hassles of daily life can trigger negative emotions that lead to emotional eating.

It's ok to sometimes use food to cope with your emotions, but it cannot be the only way you cope. Here are a few strategies you may want to try.

It's used to make you feel bad for indulging over the holiday season to sell you detoxes, gym memberships, weight loss plans, magic pills, etc. when we are most vulnerable. Pay attention, right around now you are going to see this narrative being pushed really hard. Brace yourselves...

Why the new year? The start date is arbitrary and I feel like there is so much pressure to set resolutions come January 1. The level of this content comes at us quick and makes us feel as though we've already failed within the first few seconds of January because we havenโ€™t set any goals. 2021 has been rough, be gentle with yourself and ask "am I ready to make these changes and do they support the life I want?".

Lastly, you are perfectly fine the way you are. Remember this. It's hard, I know, we feel the need to get up at 5 am and crush our workouts because everyone else is doing it. Stop comparing yourself to others. ๐™๐™š๐™ซ๐™š๐™ง๐™ฉ ๐™—๐™–๐™˜๐™  ๐™ฉ๐™ค "๐™–๐™ข ๐™„ ๐™ง๐™š๐™–๐™™๐™ฎ ๐™–๐™ฃ๐™™ ๐™ž๐™จ ๐™ฉ๐™๐™ž๐™จ ๐™ฌ๐™๐™–๐™ฉ ๐™„ ๐™ฌ๐™–๐™ฃ๐™ฉ?".

There is nothing wrong with wanting to set goals, but let's stop this BS narrative that we will wake up as new people in January and do all of the things we've avoided for most of our lives.

My advice? Make 2022 the year you take baby steps. Small goals. Small goals will lead to big goals. Take the stairs. Drink more water. Eat more fruits and veggies. Go for a walk after dinner. These things are more achievable and you're likely to stick with them in the long term.

My mantras for 2022 will be: This too shall pass. Go with the flow. Trust the process. Breathe
