With everything rushing past with the pandemic, it’s easy to get overwhelmed. I was definitely there a few months ago with the anxiety of business, life, friends—you name it. The stress got so bad that my health conditions reared their ugly heads and I couldn’t work for a time. After that, I set out to change how I look at goal setting for the week.
I’m sure we’ve all set weekly goals before. I was no different—setting lofty goals that I just couldn’t seem to meet. After the mental self-flagellation, I found myself in a worse position than when I had the set the goals in the first place. It was at that point I came up with something that worked for me.
I set two goals. One, would be my preferred goal for the week, something that would be challenging to complete in the week’s timeframe. The second would be a goal I knew I could do even if everything was going wrong. I started slow: studying for 15 minutes once a week; but, with every accomplishment came a creeping forward of intent and success. I’ve left an example/key below.
Example: Preferred goal: Read 30 minutes at bedtime during the weekdays// Stress Goal: Read 30 minutes 2 times a week at bed time.
I don’t know who this will help. Maybe you. Maybe a friend. I just hope that in these times where everything seems to be going poorly you can still find time for you and your goals.
