On Tuesday, March 29, Catholic Charities was blessed to have 23 volunteers from the Seton Hall Prep Service Day. The volunteers helped at three locations - Immigration and Refugee Services, Mount Carmel Guild Academy and Supportive Services for Veterans and Families. The groups organized office space, tutored MCG Academy students and organized the SSVF donation closet.

Kiera LoBreglio, Esq., Immigration and Refugee Services Division Director was so grateful to host volunteers, "SHP Service Day was great, would love to participate again next year!".

A BIG thanks to Vinnie McMahon from the Seton Hall Prep Campus Ministry Office who coordinated the SHP Day of Service with the Office of Volunteer Services at Catholic Charities.

Dennis Lynam was born and raised in Union City, New Jersey and served as a mail carrier in Union City for 15 years. While delivering mail in the local community, Lynam enjoyed building relationships with the residents and listening to their stories. After retiring several years ago, he and his wife, Patricia, moved out of town to enjoy a slower pace of life but he never forgot about his hometown roots, the stories and the people that he met while growing up and delivering mail in Union City.

A devout Catholic and a member of the Knights of Columbus, Lynam feels very blessed with his life and wanted to find a way to give back to the community of Union City that gave him so much. Over the past several years, he has been generously donating grocery store gift cards to Catholic Charities. Staff of Catholic Charities in Union City is able to distribute the gift cards to parents in the Supervised Therapeutic Visitation Program, some of whom are struggling to put food on the table.

Our consumer highlight for the month of March from the Integrated Case Management Services of Essex County is Lynne B., age 68, originally from Brooklyn, New York. Lynne has been on the streets for 27 years, refusing to take up residence in a shelter. Due to unlivable conditions and fear of assault, Lynne has found more comfort on the streets than what she believed a shelter could provide. After working with her case manager, Charlene Mejia, for a few short weeks, Lynne now resides at the Miller Street Pathways to Housing Program in Newark, NJ. Lynne has expressed such gratitude for her case manager who has gone above and beyond to secure her temporary housing and provide her with a sense of safety. Thank you, Charlene!
