A new month means a new calendar from Action for Happiness and this month they are focusing on Friendly February with lots of suggestions on how to build connections and friendships. This is because people with strong relationships are generally happier, healthier and live longer. Why not try out some of their ideas and remember that even the tiniest of connections can make a difference. Happy February everyone! :)

I'm back with new pages for you to enjoy! It's been a while since I last posted so I hope that there is enough here to keep you interested. This month I think about making realistic and achievable New Year resolutions that will guarantee success, recommend a book that makes you wonder what you would do if you got the chance to re live the previous year and visit the beautiful Bronte Parsonage in Haworth. There is a little dollop of positivity suggesting that each day is viewed as a new chapter in a book, a suggestion on how you can help children learn to read and some hopefully helpful advice on where you can turn to for help at the end of your cancer treatment. I hope that you are all avoiding this dreadful cold going round. Keep warm and hugs to all :)

Happy New Year to everyone reading this! I am well aware that a new year is not necessarily the happiest of times for some people, so if that is you, I hope that 2026 brings you peace, calm and contentment. Remember that you are not alone and reach out to those that you trust. They will help you. One of my favourite quotes at this time of year is 'Today is the first blank page of a 365 page book. Write a good one.' Make plans for outings and holidays, meeting with people, trying new things and start the year on a positive and productive note. Action for Happiness has printed its latest monthly calendar and they too are encouraging you to begin the year with happiness. The world is a strange and often scary place at present and we can't change that, but what we can do is make a difference for ourselves and others through our own actions. As Action for Happiness states: January is the perfect time for a fresh start and a renewed sense of purpose.

I've just managed to finish pages for this month and with no apology I've gone quite festive! I'm hoping that there will be something on here to help put you in the festive mood whether it be reading a fabulous book by Sue Moorcroft about a small village community working together to open a café in time for Christmas or by giving you ideas about how a simple card or a reverse advent could make someone else feel much happier. There's also a trip to York Minster for the Christmas tree festival and a suggestion that difficult times can be transformed into a wonderful memory if we let them. For those who find this time of year particularly difficult I send lots of hugs and a reminder that people do care. Reach out and hopefully there will be someone to give you a helping hand or a listening ear.

I'm not quite sure how I missed September but looking back it did pass by quickly and now we are already at the end of October with Halloween looming tomorrow. This year is flying by! New pages have just been posted and I hope that there is something to interest you there. This month: visit the British Ironworks Centre and see some amazing sculptures, knit, crochet or sew a hat to comfort a child suffering from cancer, accept that anxiety before a medical test is inevitable and understandable, try to find the good in every day however difficult it may seem and read my thoughts on living in a village. Book wise discover more about the practices carried out in a mother and baby home several decades ago - a shocking, disturbing and yet sometimes uplifting read. It's been a tricky month so sending out special hugs to those also experiencing difficult, sad and worrying times. Snuggle up with a cosy blanket, a hot drink and maybe a pet or two and enjoy a read. 😄

Another new month and Autumn is definitely here with the leaves changing colours and falling, bright but cold mornings and glorious blue skies. Action for Happiness understand that the lead into Winter can be hard for some people and their latest calendar focusses on having an optimistic October. 'In times of uncertainty, optimism becomes even more important. We can't control what happens, but we can choose to stay hopeful and take positive action. Join us for Optimistic October!' Give it a try and have a very happy month.

I love the monthly calendars that Action for Happiness send out -they are great prompts for daily actions to help you feel better about yourself. I'm so sorry that I am late posting this month's but perhaps you can catch up by doing two each day for a while!! We are all guilty of neglecting ourselves at times, particularly if we are busy helping other people but this month the focus is on taking care of ourselves. If we don't do that we are not always in the best position to help care for others - a gentle reminder to all of those who are taking on too much. It is important to put yourself first at times without feeling guilty about it. Happy September to you all.

It's been another crazy month with many ups and downs. I hope you are all faring well. New pages have just been added which may help cheer you up if you are feeling a little low. This month: visit the Yorkshire Sculpture park, indulge in a good book without feeling guilty, enjoy a tale of three sisters hiding secrets from one another and enrich your life by volunteering. There is also a reminder that the most beautiful things may be our memories and for those enduring cancer treatment, check out your local centre to see if there are any well being therapies on offer. I've been for one today and can highly recommend! As we come to the end of the summer and the weather starts to change, fill your life with friendship and good times where you can. Sending hugs to all in need. x

How can it be August already? Action for Happiness has just issued its latest monthly calendar to help you create happy moments for others. When we read the papers or listen to the news currently we can see that the world is very divided and people are struggling. Action for Happiness want to remind everyone that a small gesture of kindness is a very powerful way of promoting hope, whether it is supporting a friend or a stranger. A listening ear and some simple words or gestures can make someone feel better and more able to cope. In their words 'Every kind choice makes a difference.' Check out the suggestions and make a difference for someone today. I can guarantee that not only will it help them, but it will help you feel better about your day too!

We are fast approaching the end of another month and my life seems as hectic as ever, hence some focus on taking time out for yourself without feeling guilty! It's something we all should do but find difficult it seems. There's a lovely gentle holiday read about new beginnings and new friendships, a trip to see the bears and dolls houses at Newby Hall and information on how you can help children who unexpectedly find themselves in refuges without any belongings. My admiration for the Princess of Wales continues to grow with her comments on life after cancer and there's the usual dollop of positivity which will hopefully help you to walk away from tough situations to ensure you look after yourself. Enjoy the summer, make the most of each day and hugs as always to anyone who needs one! :)
