The History of Dr. V.M. Coleman Plantiff Intervenors (Part 2/2)

In September 1, 1970 judge Guinn of Midland Texas found that the Midland Independent School District was in compliance and denied all relief of the lawsuit. Judge Guinn sided with MISD and “found the district was acting in a Unitary Fashion”

In June 1971 this Court vacated the judgment of the district court as it related to pupil assignment in the elementary schools and remanded "with the direction that the district court require the school board forthwith to constitute and implement a pupil assignment plan that complies with the principles established in Swann v. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Board of Education." United States v. Midland Independent School District, 5 Cir. 1971, 443 F.2d 1180. (JUSTIA).

In August 1970. The Coleman Intervenors a long with Midland Community Activist sued Midland Independent School District (MISD). The lawsuit was a complaint that MISD was maintaining separate schools for black and Mexican-American students at the elementary school level.

Who are the carver intervenors?

The Carver Plaintiff Intervenors is a group of individuals who graduated in the year of 1967 from Carver High School. This group was formed to help promote the fairness in the education system for people of color and ensure equal opportunity learning was enforced.

The Carver Intervenors mission was to ensure that people of color would receive the same type of education that white children would be receiving with in the city of Midland.
