Happy Birthday to this guy...🥳

Always grateful to have the best team mate constantly by my side, taking on all the ups and downs, but feeling it a little more to have him around still this year! ❤️

Constantly amazed throughout this whole process with the way he's taken things a day at a time, still found things to banter about, diligently done what he can to recover despite feeling pretty dang rough and exhausted and now taking on the rehab like a champ 💪. We've been told it'll be about a year until he's back to his 'sporty' self and we still don't know what the permanent effects will look like yet but he's got his head (not literally!🤪) down and just got on with it. 3 months done in the brace, now we start recovery.

Couldn't be more grateful for him, despite the guitar and bike (STILL!!!🙈) obsessions, the need to escape with a million and one books (and don't question his bookshelf, he knows EXACTLY what's on there and if it gets moved I discovered recently!), the fact I'm still not sure if he loves 'alexa' more than me, and that cereal will still always be his favourite🙄...I'm extra glad this year that that's all the case. Happy birthday best team mate! ❤️

This guy is an absolute hero ❤️.

He's been to hell and back this week after a clash with a fence post on his mountain bike last weekend. When you hit a post with your head at 25mph, there's every likelihood it doesn't end well - the surgeons told us his helmet quite literally saved his life and that this could have all been very different 💔. There might be a smile here but it's honestly been some of the worst days of our lives. Andy has been incredible through it all, somehow managing to stay calm in moments where I couldn't be, cracking a joke when things felt really dark and digging deep through incredible pain, discomfort and complete immobilisation for days on end. I never knew someone could be so selfless and thoughtful of other people even in their darkest moments. He's come out with a broken (and now bolted!) neck, a torn ligament (the one that holds the spinal cord away from your vertebra 🤯) and some permanent restriction in his lateral movement (hopefully physio can help minimise that) but he's alive and moving! 🙌 We've got a fair way to go but we can do it 💪

We are INCREDIBLY fortunate and owe a huge amount to the staff and QMC Nottingham. Never been so glad to have him home ❤️🥳

🎂Happy birthday to the best human bean I know🥳.
I know I'm biased but anyone who knows this guy knows how kind, thoughtful, generous, hard-working and selfless he is ❤️. However, I also have the privilege of knowing & (mostly) loving how truly quirky, hilarious, obsessed with bikes (mid life BMX crisis anyone?) and guitars, nap crazy, insatiably hungry 🧀🍞🍳🥕🍏🍰🍫🍌🥑 , mad about beer🍺 (literally ANYTHING , including Brewdog shares 🙈😂), intentionally annoying (he says so anyway 🤨), introverted, nerdy 🥸 & book wormy he is too - and will always declare that he really DOES love me but quite loves some peace and quiet too 🤪 Fair enough I say!
To my best team mate, HAPPY BIRTHDAY 🎂 and may the greys continue to shine through! 🍻🧓🏼 - Saz

🍚Speedy beef fried rice:

Needed a quick dinner this week because we both had evening zoom calls and this beef fried rice was a winner 💪. Very easy to do meat free or use whatever mince you like or replace with eggs or tofu. Took approx. 15 minutes to make 🤩

Fry the mince/meat alternative in sesame oil and add either stirfry veg or frozen veg or whatever you have on hand.

Add in either pre-cooked rice or stick some packet rice in the microwave and add once cooked. At this point also add a hearty glug of soy sauce 💪. We also like to add either some ginger or a Thai spice blend that you can get from most supermarkets.

Combine it all together and serve! Enjoy 😋

Low pressure eating 😅
These are back in at aldi at the mo and it reminded us that there are some very non complicated ways to mix it up when it comes to the big picture of our diets. 👍
We have SO much more variety available to us than any generation before us🫑🥕🍠🍣🍰🧈🍕🧀🫒. Being mindful of including a range of foods doesn't need to mean eating foods from all over the world on a daily basis - in fact we want to be more mindful, not less, of how far our food travels. So don't let variety become the next food thing you're failing at when it comes to how you eat...simple things like trying a different grain or bean 🍚, varying the type of fish for the week 🍣, picking one new/different vegetable 🌽🫑🥕🍠each week or picking up a different kind of pasta 🍝can be easy, non monumental ways to try and hit those micro and macronutrients our bodies need 👍

🥰 Another kind gift and a request...
You know we ❤️ everything about ...we bang on about them enough! They kindly sent us this box of treats this week and they're all another big win 🤩. Yes they make insanely good 🍫 but they also REALLY care about the people in the process. Did you know slavery still exists in the chocolate industry? And not every big chocolate business is doing enough to stop it. go above and beyond what's required but for a lot of companies even the basic fair wages isn't a given 😔
These clever copy-cat bars are a call for those companies to wake up - and we can help out too by simply signing the petition on their website below. That and being aware of where you spend your hard earned 💰 when you buy a bar of 🍫 (can we recommend their dark salted almond or the milk nougat 👍?!). It'll take all of 2 minutes, if that, but has the potential to make big waves in this wonky industry ❤️

Doing what we CAN 💪
Guessing most people are feeling pretty similarly right now - ya gotta do what ya gotta do to keep moving through this crazy time ❤️. Whether it's PJ days , buying more stuff in plastic than you'd usually do for ease, more regular take outs, less productivity as you juggle work and home school, forgetting mealtimes or random snacks at all hours of the day, more random internet purchases or Netflix watched 😆 than you'd like to admit...who know we'd be here almost a year on?! 🤪
Give yourself GRACE and a massive dose of kindness. We've not done this before! And we've certainly not done a year of it. Thinking about what we CAN do is a much ❤️kinder way to talk to ourselves...we CAN get some fresh air each day, eat a vegetable, get some extra sleep, check in on friends or switch off your phone a bit earlier if you need a break...and anything else you find you CAN do without berating yourself 🥰..have something to look forward to maybe? In our house we've decided on having a Jan/Feb/March Christmas Day to keep us going! The Saturday closest to the 25th of each month (tomorrow!🎉) we're doing stockings, films, walk, games and a repeat of this years Christmas Day BBQ (yes we did 👍). Something to keep us going through these lockdown months. Have you got things that are keeping you going? We'd love some more ideas!

What a bonkers bonkers Christmas-time friends! 🤪😅 We had no idea what this year would entail 365 days ago and at this point we're thankful to still be here and have a smile still (more days than not anyway!).
In all seriousness, there are special people we've lost this year 💔, places we've not been, people we've hardly seen and so many things changed and cancelled. It's not a scratch on what some have experienced and it's worse than for others. There's no point comparing - we're all in our unique boats sailing through this crazy storm.
Whatever this Christmas 🎄brings, we hope that it can be memory making in some way (who knows, maybe even things we'll take going forward 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♂️), time with someone you love (even if it's on Zoom) and a reminder of the things we do have in spite of all the struggle. Both are ok to remember ❤️. Happy Christmas friends (for tomorrow and this whole season!) - we hope it's is a peaceful one for you all, however you're choosing to celebrate 🌟

A Christmas food reminder🎄😋🎄
Anyone else enjoying some rather delicious seasonal foods at the mo? So far we've enjoyed florentines, boxes of chocs 🍫, Christmas tree shaped crisps, brussel sprouts 😉(we're fans!) biscuits 🍪, parsnips and🥂🍷🍺 amongst other things! We've got mince pies, Christmas pud, more 🍫 , more brussels 😉, 🍗 and plenty of other things to look forward to too! 👍
We hope Christmas foods are filled with enjoyment rather than guilt or the 'i'll diet in January' mentality. They don't feel quite so enjoyable if we're worrying about 'sorting it out' further down the line & actually we can tend towards more binge-type behaviour when there's a fear it'll all be gone come the new year. You know what? You can eat 🍫 and 🍰 and even mince pies if you're so inclined all year round! That kind of mentality (where food is always available) and thinking about all the other things you can INCLUDE in your eating habits is really protective from going mad 🤪 and then not feeling good physically or mentally. Can you give yourself permission to eat that pud AND include lots of variety 🍤🥪🥦🍓🥗🧀🥕🍗🫒🍌🍎🍚? Remember it's never about individual foods or even what a few days looks like - healthy bodies & 🧠 are made over time.
Hoping whatever your Christmas 🎄 looks like this year that it can be free of food guilt ❤️.

🤪🤩

Honestly couldn't have been happier to receive a post parcel from 🤩 One of our most favourite companies for many reasons, largely because they're making the world a better place. We ❤️their values of changing the chocolate 🍫 industry by paying workers what they deserve for their labour, helping to stop slavery in the cocoa business, ethical trading standards and environmental considerations too (everything comes in paper and foil, all of which can easily be recycled 👍). Oh and did we mention it's DELICIOUS? 😋

We want to INVEST CONSCIOUSLY with our buying choices❤️. We're all investing into something when we part with our cash, so where we can we're trying to choose companies like to make the world better for everyone involved in the process, not just our taste buds. It's a learning curve though and we'd love to know if you have recommendations of companies that have a similar ethos👍. Let us know in the comments if you have favourites! Oh and grab yourself (or add to your Christmas list 😉) a bar of this too 😋🍫

We've talked about CRAVINGS this week on Instagram stories and it's been interesting that we've been able to predict the responses to our polls about what and when we crave certain things 🍕🍫 🤩 That's because there are some psychological and physiological reasons why and once you understand those things you can find the driver.
Doesn't mean you'll never have a craving again (who doesn't just fancy a pizza or favourite chocolate bar? 🤷‍♀️) but it can mean you don't get them so frequently and actually frequent strong cravings can be frustrating when it feels like a bit of a food and appetite rollercoaster 🤪.
We've talked about fatigue, blood sugar management, restriction, deficiencies and loads more - bottom line being that if you're struggling, ask for help! 🤩👍. It's not weird or wrong, it's just a 'thing' happening as a response to something else and fitting the puzzle pieces together is what we do 🧐 so you don't have to be confused by it all 🥰.
