Paula is HOME! It’s been a long day, but we arrived in Reston a short time ago and she was greeted in the driveway by loving neighbors who decorated the driveway, street and sidewalks to welcome her back.

More to come later!!! First, we need naps!!!!

The good news continues!!! Yesterday’s checkup went very well! Paula is healing from her surgery and feels better every day! In fact, she was able to enjoy a mile-long walk this evening on the way to a delicious dinner! We took our time and took breaks but she did it!!!!

One more follow up appointment on Thursday and then we fly home on Friday!! Hard to believe it’s almost all over!

Here it is..... the post you’ve all been waiting for! Paula has been discharged from the Mayo Clinic!!!! We’re waiting for our Lyft and will soon be back at the apartment!

More good news!!! All the chest tubes have been removed, along with all the other IVs (pain meds, hydration, etc...) !!!! Paula is still wearing a heart monitor and has a P*K line for blood draws.

But, she’s feeling great and looking fantastic. She is set to be discharged tomorrow and has follow up appointments scheduled for next week at the Mayo Clinic. Our flight home to Virginia is next Friday, so we’re going to have a relaxing week here at the apartment in Rochester - lots of soup, smoothies, naps and Netflix marathons! (Oh, and I’m definitely going to force Paula and Michael to watch Hamilton with me!!!!)

Thanks again for all of the love and support! It has all definitely helped her so much!!! While we are all immeasurably grateful for all the outpouring of your best wishes, Paula requests that all gifts wait until she returns to Virginia and can enjoy them from the comfort of her home.

I can’t wait to post tomorrow’s update of her discharge! Keep your fingers crossed!!!!

This will be just a quick morning update. Paula had a long night, but has progressed well enough to already leave the ICU. She is tired and sore but thankful for all the love you have all sent her way. She's not ready for phone calls, but feel free to send her texts or leave messages for her here. I promise she'll get every one!
