I aim to identify the most effective, acceptable and feasible method of assessing suicidal thoughts and risk in perinatal women, whilst raising awareness and reducing the stigma associated with this topic.

**PLEASE SHARE** Tomorrow is World Su***de Prevention Day. Every life lost to su***de is a tragedy. It is important that we come together and talk about this topic, both to reduce stigma and help save lives.

As part of my PhD research, I am exploring the acceptability of asking about su***de during pregnancy and after birth. Given that su***de is a leading direct cause of maternal death, it is essential that questions about su***de are appropriate, relevant and in context to being an expectant or new mother so that women who may be at risk are identified and supported early.

I am currently recruiting pregnant and postnatal women, and healthcare practitioners (who work in maternity care, e.g., Midwives, GPs, Health Visitors etc.) to take part in a one-to-one interview with me (lasting approximately one-hour) via Zoom/Teams or over the phone, to better understand this very important topic. Please see the attached posters for further details, and eligibility requirements.

I will not be recruiting anyone who is experiencing current suicidality or self-harming behaviours. However, I would like to recruit a number of participants who have experienced suicidality or mental health issues in the past, alongside those who have not.

PLEASE share this post amongst your networks, and if you have any questions, please email me at: Elizabeth.Dudeney@City.ac.uk.
THANK YOU 🙏🏻

Hello all, it’s been a while since I’ve posted here! However, I’ve been invited to present the findings of my recent research study looking at ‘measures of suicidality in perinatal populations: a systematic review’ at an online conference on the 26th November 2021. The conference includes many speakers who are examining different aspects of su***de and/or self-harm, so it should be a very interesting day! I will be presenting between 3:30-3:45pm.

The conference is free, but you need to register before the 19th November 2021 if you’d like to attend any of the presentations. Please see the link below for the programme and registration details ❤️

Welcome to the netECR e-Conference 2021 Webpage! We are delighted to be running the second edition of our e-Conference on Friday, the 26th of November 2021! The main aim of our e-conference is prom…

Research shows that asking someone if they are suicidal will not put the idea into their head.

It’s the start of a new year, and the start of my first PhD study! Over the next six-months I’ll be conducting a systematic review to identify and evaluate existing methods for assessing suicidal thoughts, behaviours and risk during pregnancy and after birth. This is important research, as su***de remains the leading direct cause of death for women up to one-year after birth.

I’m currently trying to self-fund my PhD, but the combined cost of this over three-years will be in excess of £50,000. So I’m humbly asking people to donate to my crowdfunding page to help support this research. If you are able to contribute anything, it would be very gratefully received. The link to my GoFundMe page and video is below. Please feel free to share far and wide! Thank you. Xx

Today is World Mental Health Day & this year's theme is su***de prevention. I will be wearing my ‘Real Talk’ badge to encourage & remind us to have courageous & honest conversations about mental health & su***de.

As many of you know, I have just started my PhD into Preventing Maternal Su***de & I am seeking much needed donations to support my research. Even £5 would be an enormous help! You can watch my research video and find out more info on my crowdfunding page below. Please feel free to share the link across your social media platforms. Thank you ❤️

What a difference a few years make! Back in 2014/2015 I was frequenting The Strand in London to attend lectures at LSE with Marta Spencer-Smith (and Jo Joanna Holroyd) for my BSc in Psychology through The Open University.

Fast forward to now, and I’ve just attended a conference on the Effectiveness and Costs of Perinatal Mental Health Services in the UK at Kings College. Dr Billie Lever Taylor was particularly noteworthy.

I start my PhD next week - I’m feeling very driven, inspired and ready to kick some academic ass!
