In 2021, Mish was awarded Educator of the Year Award from Fitness Australia. Mish has written a number of online and face to face courses, designed specifically for fitness professionals, working with Fitness Australia, Central Queensland University, Fitness Education Online, Eat fitness (NZ) and FITM (Malaysia) and COTA around the topics of women’s health and training older adults. Mish also has a course designed for women and considers it the missing women’s wisdom of current fitness qualifications. Want to pimp your morning walk? Here are three quick tweaks that’ll make it way more powerful — for your body and your brain.

Tip 1 — Light it up:
If you’re heading out early, ditch the sunnies for the first 10 minutes. That morning light hitting your eyes tells your brain it’s time to wake up and get energised. Basically, free coffee from the sun.

Tip 2 — Find your stairs:
Adopt a set of stairs. Seriously. Use them to get a bit huffy-puffy — that’s your cardiovascular system saying hello. Bonus: time how long it takes for your breathing to settle, or see if you can do it just through your nose. Little self-checks like that keep you tuned in.

Tip 3 — Bring your people:
We’re wired for connection, so grab a mate. Walking with someone else isn’t just social — it’s protective for your mental health. Who’s in your circle that you can move with?

So that’s it — light, lungs, and laughs. The ultimate walk upgrade. Try it tomorrow and see how different you feel.

Sometimes the best GRIT isn’t in the gym — it’s right in front of you. 🏃‍♀️

Adding stairs ticks a lot of boxes: load, heart rate, coordination, and that sneaky mental edge that builds resilience. Try doing a few flights with just nose breathing — it’ll humble you in the best way.

I like to stack my GRACE, so stairs might show up as GRIT one day… and ACCUMULATE the next. It’s not about smashing it — it’s about stacking it.
