December can get noisy. Expectations, plans, pressure to make everything magical.

If the season feels heavy, step back.
If it feels rushed, slow down.

It's still your December - shape it how you want to.
And remember: the best moments are usually the simple, unplanned ones.

Taking a break is good for us! It’s not healthy to always be on the go - we need our rest too, to rebalance and restore our energy.

In Japan, a culture of hard work and dedication runs deep, and one unique aspect of this is the acceptance of falling asleep at work as a symbol of commitment. This practice, known as inemuri, is not seen as a sign of exhaustion or weakness, but rather as a sign of how much effort a person is putting into their work. It reflects a society where dedication to one's duties is highly valued.

While in many cultures, the sight of someone asleep at their desk may be perceived as a sign of laziness or burnout, in Japan, it’s viewed with respect. The idea is that by working so diligently, individuals are sometimes so exhausted that they need a brief rest to continue performing at their best. In a world that often pushes us to work harder, this practice serves as a reminder to listen to our bodies and the importance of balance.

The concept of inemuri also calls into question how we define productivity. Are we truly more productive when we push ourselves to the limit, or is productivity rooted in how well we care for ourselves and recharge when necessary? This approach reminds us that rest is not a sign of failure, but an essential component of success.

As we reflect on this, we can ask ourselves: How do we balance the demands of work with the need for rest? How can we create a culture in our own lives where balance and well-being are just as valued as hard work? Let’s explore the importance of rest in the pursuit of success.

WHY A QUICK FIX ISN’T REAL HEALING

We often try to control everything around us - our circumstances, other people, even the direction life is “meant” to take. But just like a river, life has its own current. You can steer your boat, make choices, and adjust your course… yet the flow is always there, carrying you forward whether you resist it or not.

When we fight against that current by forcing, pushing or resisting what is, we end up exhausted, stressed, and stuck in place. No matter how hard we row, we don’t move forward in the way we hope.

But when we learn to trust the river and flow with it, everything feels lighter. The journey becomes smoother, calmer, and even more enjoyable. We still guide ourselves, but in harmony with the natural pull of life.

Maybe this is a reminder for you today: stop battling what you can’t control. Instead, lean into the flow and see where the river takes you.
