💢💢💢💢💢To anyone either starting, thinking about starting or starting over for the millionth time on a fitness journey, I have a little TOUGH LOVE incoming! (And it is something I have had to come to terms with PERSONALLY as well..)‼️‼️‼️‼️
First, i want you to ask yourself, "Do I want to fail?" You're probably like no, who WANTS to fail? But.. is failing your comfort zone? Is failing, especially with fitness, what you have made normal or what you think you deserve, deep down? Are you giving yourself GOALS that are easy to SUCCEED at or easy to FAIL at?
What makes you think you are ready to overhaul and completely change everything about your life/fitness in one single day... when you won't give a small change TODAY, RIGHT NOW, a chance first? (Shoutout to all my "I'll start on Monday" people.) Is it an excuse to binge all weekend because you wont "be allowed" to have anything you enjoy starting monday?
What makes you think you are ready to take on some strict diet where you have to eat food you hate and almost starve all day, or obsess about what you CAN'T have, when you won't even give adding a little extra protein into your meals, eating out one less day per week or even just adding in a little fruit or veggies into your meals a few times a week first? Or practice not eating distracted? Or not snacking mindlessly standing in front of the fridge trying to decide what to eat? Or giving up one or two alcoholic drinks a week? Or even learning a little about nutrition and how to read your food labels?
I have a high school diploma and a paramedic certification... if i apply to medical school to become a doctor right this second, what are they going to say? DENIED! Does that mean I'm a failure or can't EVER get to medical school? No, that just means i still have learning and work to do first. I picked a STARTING goal that is completely ridiculous for my current situation.
Do you ask a 4 year old to solve a long division problem and then tell them they're stupid because they can't?? Absolutely not! They have to learn the math foundations progressively as they go to school, to get to that point.
Is going back to school to get an associates pointless, if your end goal is medical school? Is going to kindergarten pointless if your end goal is long division? Then why do we so often think having small fitness/nutrition related goals are pointless? Is something small not worth doing?
And I'll also ask you this, is the extreme, super hard or complicated or restrictive diet/goal/workout program MORE worth doing, if it's something you will just fail at in 3 days?
If you find yourself stuck in these patterns of all or nothing thinking, I really encourage you to start observing yourself, your habits, your patterns and your thoughts. Maybe start to question some of them. Why do i do this? Where is this coming from? Why do i feel the need to punish myself into becoming healthy?
When you are ready, truly ready to become who you WANT to be and leave who you have been uncomfortably comfortable with being, behind, just start. Pick one habit that the person you want to be would have. JUST ONE, and enjoy and be proud of yourself for being successful at that one thing. Watch and see what grows from that little seed. 1% better every single day will always get you farther than 100% better for 2 days and then 150% worse 5 days until the next Monday. GIVE YOURSELF PERMISSION TO BE SUCCESSFUL *slaps you with love*👋💞
