Incisional drainage not recommended by plastic surgeon. Dr. Rubinstein, a plastic surgeon in Miami, explains that squeezing and pushing fluids out of incisions (aka incisional drainage) it's not really "lymphatic massage", that is risky, and that people getting surgery shouldn't get it.
Most plastic surgeons think the same way and are against this type of manipulation. There are a few surgery centers in Miami and plastic surgeons who recommend incisional drainage. Just because a few surgeons recommend incisional drainage, doesn't mean nurses should do it, and doesn't mean patients should get it.
So beware, real lymphatic drainage does NOT involves pushing fluids out of surgical incisions, or poking needles to drain the fluid out of them, and not even massaging hard towards JP drains.
