So I’ve recently joined a new gym, semi private PT but also an official Hyrox training centre. What is Hyrox, HYROX combines both running & functional workout stations, where athletes run 1km, followed by 1 functional workout station, repeated eight times. So workout stations include burpee broad jumps, rowing, wallballs, lunges, farmers carry, rowing and sled push. Sounds tough, looks tough but a great workout. Training for Hyrox is tough going, it’s all about repetition and high intensity movements that can easily lead to overuse injuries. With Physical Therapy we can keep the body mobile, balanced and strong and help prevent injury.

If you think I can help don’t hesitate to give me a shout on 0876142248

Why is Physical Therapy Important?

As a health service, physical therapy aims to improve range of motion, reduce pain, and prevent further disability or injury. Most of all, physical therapy can increase overall quality of life. However, this is just the beginning of the benefits physical therapy has on those willing to invest time into their health. Other benefits include:

Quicker Recovery: Physical therapy can be an essential factor for those recovering from injury. A physical therapist will know the best interventions for your body, helping you in regaining as much normal and independent functioning as possible.

Pain Management: Rather than utilizing prescription medication, physical therapy can be a natural source to reduce or eliminate pain from injuries and certain conditions. This can be accomplished through techniques such as ice and heat, soft tissue manipulation, and physical exercises.

Increase Mobility: Strengthening and stretching exercises is another way to restore maximum mobility and range of motion safely, all while promoting circulation and increasing awareness of your body and body movements.

Reduce Fall Risk: Physical therapy works to build your strength, boost your endurance, and improve balance. This will help to reduce the risk of falls, allowing you to maintain your independence safely.

For non – athletes and weekend warriors physical therapy is a very effective treatment in promoting recovery, treating aches and pains, reducing stiffness and fatigue and keeping the body feeling supple and mobile.

I’ve had some people ask me about marathon training, being their first marathon, what to expect and what physical therapy can actually help them with.

How Physical Therapy Can Help Get You Through Your Marathon Training

Common Complaints Associated with Long Distance Running:

Runners Knee
Shin Splints
Stress Fracture
Achilles Tendinitis
Plantar Fasciitis
Muscle Injuries
Ankle Sprains
Fatigue

All of the above are likely caused by overuse. Overuse being the amount of training required to complete the marathon - extra running session or longer running session etc.

The Benefits of a Sports Massage

A necessity rather than a luxury, during marathon training, regular sports massage should be an integrated part of the training program.

Sports massage therapy has numerous physical as well as psychological benefits:

*Treats specific muscular tightness
*Decreases tightness
*Helps maintain and condition muscle tissues
*Decreases the recovery time between training sessions
*Prevents adhesions forming in the muscles from micro-trauma
*Reduces pain and inflammation
*Promotes improved circulation
*Relaxation – an often overlooked but extremely important part of training
