Druk Sokchop Neonatal Basic & Advanced Life Support Training 2025

The Druk Sokchop Neonatal Basic & Advanced Life Support (DS NBLS-NALS) recently completed the third round of regional training and second round of facility-based training.

The regional training of NBLS/NALS was conducted in three regions in October 2025 (ERRH, Monggar for Eastern region; CRRH, Gelephu for Central region; and CSBT, FNPH, Thimphu for Western region). A total of 20 Instructors trained 42 Instructor candidates and 79 Provider candidates.

Facility-based trainings targeted hospitals across all 20 Dzongkhags whereby facility-based NBLS training was conducted in 15 hospitals and facility-based NBLS/NALS training was conducted in 3 hospitals (JDWNRH, CRRH and ERRH). Three Dzongkhags could not conduct training due to staff shortages. A total of 79 Instructors trained 382 Provider candidates during the facility-based trainings.

The training was conducted with financial support from UNICEF, just as they have been supporting the nationwide roll-out of Druk Sokchop Neonatal Basic & Advanced Life Support since August 2023. With the recently-concluded trainings, more than 1000 healthcare workers have been trained in NBLS and more than 700 healthcare workers have been trained in both NBLS & NALS. This brings the Druk Sokchop NBLS & NALS Technical Working Group closer to their target of achieving at least 80% coverage of trained relevant healthcare workers by 2028.
