What Your Office Says About Your Success
Feng Shui isn’t just ancient woo — it’s your new success strategy.
After doing 1,000's of consults and looking and 100's of office spaces, I'm always so surprise and the lack of care and attention put into peoples workspaces
We spend so much time at our desk and in our office so it’s important it is optimised for productivity and creativity.
Feng Shui will help you create a vibrant and successful energy in your office space.
No matter whether your office is a small home office, corner office or even a small cubicle - you can still Feng Shui it and bring more harmony, peace and productivity to the space.
Feng Shui is an ancient practice which isn’t about knocking down walls, hanging weird trinkets or minimalism.
Feng shui suggestions do not have to be conspicuous, even a couple air purifying plants and smart feng shui images plus a better positioning of your office desk can do wonders for your well-being, and ultimately contribute to your career success.
The first thing in the office to tackle is clutter as it has been proven to impact productivity severely.
In a survey by Office Max of over 1,000 working adults, 90% of these working Americans reported that clutter had a negative impact on their lives and work and 77% reported that clutter actually damages their level of productivity. Over 50% claimed that disorganization actually impairs their state of mind and motivation levels
Studies show that the average person wastes 4.3 hours per week searching for papers. It adds stress and frustration to the workplace while reducing concentration and creative thinking.
Have a look at all the books, old client files, industry journals, historical records, in your office. Ask the following questions to help sort and organise
Are they relevant to your current business? Are they relevant to where you are going with your business? Am I going to read/need/use it again?
Next, move on to digital clutter.
This is just as important as physical clutter, especially if you work on your computer all day long. Keep your home screen clear. Delete desktop icons that you don’t use, empty your recycle bin, and tidy up. Download a motivating background or create your own digital vision board to keep you inspired. Go through your computer files and email inbox. Delete anything that is unwanted or unnecessary. Proper organization will bring revitalization to almost every area of your work.
To continue to boost productivity in the office, fresh plants in offices can boost work output by 15 per cent. This is according to experiments at two large commercial offices in the UK and The Netherlands by Cardiff University School of Psychology. Plants significantly increased workplace satisfaction, self-reported levels of focus, and perceived air quality and productivity went up by 15 percent. Artificial plants are not recommended as they gather dust and create stagnant energy.
Desk placement matters significantly in Feng Shui. Never sit with your back to the door or entrance to the office; it is the same as “turning your back on opportunity”.
Position your desk in the command position in the farthest corner of the room with the corner or the wall behind you for support. However, do not put your desk in direct line with the doorway.
Your desk, which should be ideally made of wood or a nice solid material.
If you work in a space with multiple desks, arrange them so they all face the same direction to avoid office politics.
The best chairs if you want to apply Feng Shui in the office. Solid base looks for a solid base for stability in your job and life. Arm rests: These provide support and protection, literally and symbolically. Solid back: The higher the back, the better.
High quality: Take a look around any corporate office. Lower level employees have less expensive, smaller chairs; their chairs often don't follow the Feng Shui principles.
As you climb the corporate ladder, the size and quality of your chair improves. When you see CEOs represented on TV or in magazine pictures, they are always in a large, high-backed, quality office chair that looks very solid.
Finally, let’s talk about artwork.
The art you hang in your office should lift and nourish your personal energy. Whether life imitates art or art imitates life, be sure that the pieces you choose to have in your environment reflect the kind of life you want to enjoy. It should represent the values and vision of the business. To create better teamwork in an office, have a group picture of all the staff together. Place a picture of a solid mountain behind your desk this gives you support and protection against office politics and helps get your work and efforts recognized. A picture of stormy weather will lead to stormy business. A picture of boats tied up against a dock indicates a company is stuck.
By making these small changes in your office, you’ll be working in the energy of abundance and flow, therefore attracting what it is you want into your business – success!
Love,
Patricia ❤️😘
