Delighted to be back to teaching nursing students about the theory of Loneliness.

Is loneliness among foreigners in Finland just a mere emotion? What are the unnoticed signs and symptoms?

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Aaltje, a Dutch national and Internationally Educated Nurse, who graced us with her invaluable insights on loneliness, sadness, and the social determinants of health among foreigners in Finland. With years of experience spanning Canada, Germany, and now Oulu, Aaltje's background as a mental health nurse added profound depth to our discussions.

She discussed the root causes of loneliness among foreigners in Finland and highlighted subtle signs and symptoms that often go unnoticed. Aaltje's dedication to enriching our students' learning experience is truly commendable.

Worldwide more than 145 million children are exiled or displaced meaning that they are separated from their parents and families. Unicef stated yesterday that after one month of war in Ukraine has led to the displacement of 4.3 million children. This is a relevant and urgent problem. How do we prevent loneliness? Together with youth workers from several European countries we addressed loneliness among youth,- the theory; what is loneliness and and what kind of interventions are needed.
