Fishy Vegetarian Hi! We're L.J & Tamryn! We created Fishy Vegetarian to share simple, delicious recipes and tips to help ease you into the pescetarian lifestyle.

The FV Philosophy:

A fishy vegetarian plain and simply loves to have fun in the kitchen with whole fresh foods and seafood. They love spending time in the great outdoors, and get high on getting their hands all muddy while planting fresh greens, and vegetables. And don’t be surprised if you see them at the farmers market every Saturday morning picking up the freshest of fresh for the week ahead. Their passion for fresh foods extends to the deep oceans, where they love to hop on a boat and catch fish. If they’re not close enough to an ocean, their local fishmonger is their best friend. If they do catch the fish themselves, you better believe they've mastered (or are busy mastering) the fine art of gutting a fish. Ask them what their favourite gutting knife is and they’ll give you an earful of the best, worst, and their absolute must-have. You’ll want to stay out of their kitchen while they’re busy cooking, because wow can it become a hurricane in there. They’re all about being hands-on, so don’t worry if you see them hands deep in a bowl of fresh berries, lime, and vinegar, mixing up a little saucy sauce for the salmon filet they have sizzling in the pan. And if you check their spice cabinet, you’re sure to see a few unmarked bottles in there - their own secret seafood spices of course. It’s not all about cooking for the fishy vegetarian, they’re all about knowing exactly what goes into their food and why. Being a pescetarian is not just some passing fad to a fishy vegetarian, it’s a lifestyle and nutrition is a very important aspect of their day. They are in tune with nature and living a balanced life. You may find them on Instagram sharing their latest creations, but the fishy vegetarian isn't about perfection, no ma’am, you won’t find staged photo’s here. Their insta-snaps might be a bite or two in, but this won’t stop you from wanting to reach into the screen to grab your share.

On top, veggie patty and fried eggs 🍳!

The "pescatarian" label just so happens to suit the way we define what we eat.⁣⁣

But it does not define us. ⁣⁣

When we first started FV, it was more of a hobby, but over the last couple years we've seen the growth in the pescatarian community. ⁣⁣

Steak 🥩! Yum yum yum 😋 Gotcha! It’s TUNA STEAK 🥩 🐟 This is definitely not an everyday type of meal for us (not that we wouldn’t want it to be) because tuna is one of the larger fish 🐟 and shouldn’t be consumed in steak form more than once every couple weeks. I like to make it super simple: oregano, salt, and pepper seasoning on both sides. In the (hot) pan for quite literally 1 to 1.5 mins per side ⏰ to avoid it going tough on you. Lay it on a bed of greens 🥬 and asparagus on the side because why not and it’s a good source of grain-free carbs! As a dressing I went with a soy/ginger which is heaven (I’ll get back to you on the brand...) Tappity tap tap if you could go for this right now!

A balanced meal fit for a pescatarian queen or king 👑! On this plate you’ve got baked yams 🍠 and asparagus (healthy carbs), topped with smoked mussels and two fried eggs 🍳 (fats and protein). Most people go into a new diet with one of the following intentions:

🔸to lose weight
🔸to gain muscle
🔸to have more energy
🔸medical issues

But unfortunately, despite trying for a few weeks (or even months), research shows that the majority of those people fail.

Making the transition to becoming a pescatarian is no different.

If you’re not doing it for the right reasons, it’s going to be tough.

But…

I feel confident in the fact that you’re here right now.

Most people coast through life blissfully unaware of what they’re putting into their body until illness hits and they’re forced to make a change.

Since you landed on this post of mine, I feel confident that you’re aware and open a lifestyle change.

That’s really what this is after all.

Here at Fishy Vegetarian, we don’t prescribe to any sort of “diet” – oh no – just like Rome wasn’t built in a day… your lifestyle need not be either!

With that said, let’s get to it, shall we?

In this article, I’ve prepared for you my ten best steps for making the transition to a pescatarian lifestyle much smoother, more manageable, and perhaps even more inviting!

I like to simplify things when it comes to lunch 🥗 ... if it takes me 10 mins or less to prepare it’s a winner! Here’s a super simple tip you can take to go today: grab your greens (anything will work - kale, spinach, etc), sauté them with onion and garlic. Then add in one or two of your favourite veggies ... I went with mushroom s here. And voila - warm salad perfect for those icy ❄️ cold days ahead 👌 I’m going to top this with a sprinkling of brain happy B12 from good ol, cheezy nutritional yeast! 🧀 If you need something a bit more filling, add some plant or fish protein on the side - sardines, 🍳, canned salmon, chickpeas... your options are endless!
