My favorite flavor has betrayed me! Okay, not exactly - I’m not affected by this particular brand, but mint chocolate chip is my favorite flavor. But seriously, for my dear celiac peeps and more, here is a new recall due to Undeclared Wheat - some of their cookies n’ cream ice cream flavor was packaged into their mint chocolate chip containers.

It’s been a long traumatic time period for so many, including myself.
I took a picture of this ridiculous fake plant at what turned out to be my last meal out in NYC, as shortly thereafter, the pandemic shut down the world.
The plant felt like a silly serendipitous NYC cheerleader 📣 for something else I was going through at the time - I wasn’t quitting anything but I felt like I needed permission to rest. Little did I know how much more trauma and change was coming.
That was March 2020.
Wow,… no words😶
But I’m still here! Still tired, but never quitting. Seven times down, eight times up.
We’ll only get through these historic times together🤞❤️🌞There are a lot of extra tough issues still to deal with; Reach out to the people you know. Bake them their favorite pie (gluten-free of course)😉

This makes sense as it’s the same with crickets!

As a gluten-free baker working with alternative flours, I’ve been watching cricket flour become more popular - but I’ve also noticed more and more people with shellfish allergies, especially to shrimp, reporting allergic reactions when they eat crickets.

Yup, insects and crustaceans share compounds in their hard shells that are often the cause of someone’s allergy. If you’re allergic to one, it’s very possible you’re allergic to the other so check in with a doctor before your insect eating adventure!

I decided a few years ago to clearly label anything containing crickets, or any insect with an exoskeleton, as one would with shellfish. Definitely an issue to be aware of!
