For most people, the holiday season can be stressful, but when you are chronically ill, the holidays can bring more stress, exhaustion and an increase in symptoms. And family members don’t always understand the difficulties endured by those with chronic illness during the holidays. If you could, what would you ask of your loved ones to help make the holidays easier on your health? This can be anything from not doing guilt this year, to thinking about what is important and not sucking the joy out of the holidays, etc.

I have learned so much since becoming a chronic illness patient. I can hold my own with almost any doctor and even speak medicalese. I know about tests, medications, therapies, etc. but mostly what it takes to have a fulfilled life with chronic illness. But if I had only known then what I know now, I would have saved myself a lot of heartache, pain and bad health choices. I am depressed. My mom passed away about 3 weeks ago and not only am I depressed, I am in physical pain due to my RA and fibromyalgia acting up. I am also tired all the time and I sleep a lot. My place looks like a tornado flew through it. I managed to organize a closet and work on my writing this morning. That is all. And I am struggling to stay focused at work. I have talked to my doctor and I am taking Cymbalta to help me deal with these feelings. But I know what I am feeling is normal, considering my mother was the one person in my life I could rely on. How do I stop worrying about my housework and doing perfect work at the office while I grieve and deal with all this? I don’t have a lot of energy in me these days.
