Deep Fried...Something Blogging about what I'm cooking. Not as much deep-fried stuff anymore, but hey, it's a catchy name.

I’ve had this bookmarked for ages, finally made it today with Yukon gold potatoes. A+++, will make again.

This year, I decided to reexamine my potato-roasting method from the ground up with the idea of completely maximizing that crisp-to-creamy contrast in each chunk of potato, testing and retesting every variable, from cut size to potato type to boiling and roasting methods. The result is this recipe,....

This was SO good. Takes a while to cook, but it was totally worth it. Not a ton of active time, pretty much a perfect dish for the weekend.

A whole chicken, poached in a ginger and anise–scented soy broth, is a popular dish served at Chinese New Year celebrations.

I just made this (with the optional harissa added in) and holy cow is it good. Highly recommend, fast and easy.

[Note: This recipe got fresh photos in 2019.] It has been over one week since I told you about the Light Wheat Bread (and just as long since we’ve been out of it, sob), a post I ended with a …

Finally took a shot at pho in the Instant Pot, and I was not disappointed.

One of my friends recently got an Instant Pot, and posted asking for recipe recommendations. Sarah shared this post with her before I could, but several other people also posted things and this recipe intrigued me. I love pho, but...

I made this soup today, and it's so good. And so easy. Great way to use up some extra zucchini (and basil). A+, will make again.

Because zucchini cooks so quickly, it retains its bright green color nicely in this soup, which takes just six ingredients and 20 minutes to prepare.

Made these tonight, with a couple of minor modifications: only pressure cooked for 15 minutes instead of 30 (it's still plenty), and finished them on the grill instead of the broiler. A+, will make again.

When I heard that the people behind America's Test Kitchen were publishing a cookbook specifically for pressure cooking, I got pretty excited. I have yet to have one of their recipes fail, and I love reading the notes on how...

I'm stuffed from eating this, and counting down the minutes until I'm unstuffed enough to eat another bowl.

I'm stuffed from eating this, and counting down the minutes until I'm unstuffed enough to eat another bowl.

Last weekend, we went to The Crack Shack in Encinitas, CA for lunch. Sarah and I looked through the menu, then both picked their anti-salad power bowl. Once it arrived and we devoured it, we realized how relatively simple it...

Easy, delicious dinner tonight.

Easy, delicious dinner tonight.

One of my friends posted this recipe recently, and it sounded too good (and easy) not to try. The only change I made was cooking it in a dutch oven instead of a skillet, to contain the mess a bit...

The cooking times in this recipe were a bit off (I started with 9 minutes at high pressure, and after the 35 minute rest it was only at ~95F), but once I cooked it to our liking, the end result was amazing and definitely the easiest prime rib I've ever made.

If you don't think you have time to prepare a special roast, take a look at this Instant Pot prime rib. The beef and gravy are ready in record time!
