Will is an herbalist, wildcrafter, and outdoor guide from West Virginia with more than 40 years' experience. He has had over 300 apprentices, and has taught many others about the bounty of nature. He studied for 28 years with herb doctor and healer CF "Catfish" Gray. He has had many herbal elders, and has been deeply influenced by the traditional Cherokee approach to plants and medicine. Living and working in the woods has given him a uniquely intimate knowledge of the natural world. He offers medicinal consultations, year-round guided walks, seminars, apprenticeships, and wild plant surveys. Will, his son, and staff locally produce and sell their products through Whole Foods in Chapel Hill and Durham, Weaver Street Market in Carrboro and Hillsborough and Chatham Marketplace in Pittsboro. They also sell year round at the Saturday Durham, Carrboro, and Eno River Farmers' Markets.

Hooray, and thank you! From the GFM page.

"Today by Claire Narensky, Organizer

We want to send a heartfelt thank you to everyone who has donated; we have met and exceeded our goal! We have been so moved at the outpouring of love for Will and the support for this project. Having a bench dedicated to his memory along the river and in the town he so loved and shared his teachings will be something we can all share. Thank you for making this happen! Your generosity is deeply appreciated.

We will keep the Go Fund Me page up so we can update you with pictures once the project is completed. Any continued donations will be put towards unexpected costs beyond the estimates for the bench and plaque. Any funds beyond the cost of the bench and plaque will be sent to three organizations already collecting donations in Will’s memory: Appalachian Mountain Advocates, Southern Environmental Law Center, and Appalshop."

Hi friends. Unfortunately it’s with a heavy heart I have to announce that we will be closed for the foreseeable future.

Will has had a healthcare emergency. We appreciate your support and will make sure any messages addressed to Will find their way to him.

I remember him every day!
I sometimes wonder what I would have been doing for the last 45 years without my 28 years with Catfish!

Catfish, Will's first teacher, was a beautiful man who impacted the lives of countless people. The following is the first part of a set of Will's photographs of Catfish. These photos are now part of the Smithsonian Permanent collection.
