DCRS Presents: Rural Research Perspectives - Bridging the Gap in Medical Innovation

30th October 2024, 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM on Zoom

The event will focus on rural research and medical innovation, highlighting the
importance of research in rural healthcare settings. Dr Kovoor will discuss ways
to bridge the gap between urban and rural medical practices. This talk is open to all students and will be particularly relevant for those interested in rural health. To ensure accessibility, especially for rural students, the event will be held online via Zoom. It will also be recorded and later uploaded to YouTube with basic edits to protect student privacy. This is a free event and offers students a valuable opportunity to learn from an experienced professional in the field. There will likely be a Q&A session
included.

🌟 Thank You & FAQs Clarified! 🌟

A huge shout-out to everyone who joined us at the launch of our new clinical research club at the recent Med O-Week! Your enthusiasm and curiosity have laid the foundation for a community eager to bridge clinical practice with research. 🎉

We noticed some common questions popping up and thought, why not address them here? So, let's dive in!

1. What's Our Core Mission? 🎯

We're all about empowering students in clinical roles with the tools and knowledge to excel in research. Whether you're a future clinician or already in the field, we're here to enrich your journey with skills relevant to clinical research. From hosting clinician-researcher guests to workshops on handling clinical data, we've got a lot planned!

2. How Are We Unique? 🤔

We're not your usual club. Here's the lowdown:

- Interdisciplinary Focus: Unlike the Deakin Medical Research Student Association, we're not just for HDR students or limited to the School of Medicine. We're here for all healthcare disciplines. 🏥
- Active Research Integration: While the Deakin Research Journal Club is fantastic for discussing research articles, we take it a step further by guiding you on integrating research into your clinical practice. 📚➕🩺

3. What's On The Horizon? 🌅

Exciting things are coming! Think engaging talks from Geelong hospital speakers, hands-on workshops for clinical data management, and much more. We're here to make research an accessible and integral part of your clinical journey.

Stay tuned for more updates and don't hesitate to reach out with any questions or suggestions. Together, let's make research a cornerstone of our clinical practice!

📩 DM us or comment below if you have any queries or ideas. Let's make this journey remarkable together!

It was great to see you all at the Deakin Medical Orientation Market Day! We had quite a few questions from a lot of students, and will answer some of the most common ones below:

How are you different from the other Deakin Club - Deakin Medical Research Association?
The Deakin Medical Research Association is primarily centred around providing support for students involved in HDRs in the Deakin School of medicine. DCRS however, is primarily for students who are, or will be involved in clinically focused degrees (e.g. Medicine, Nursing, medical imaging, etc) who are interested in getting involved in clinical research.

I am keen to get more involved in your club – are there any positions available that will allow me to do this?
General committee callouts for DCRS will be held in the next 2-3 weeks, and will be announced via email and social media. Additionally, we are still in the process of selecting suitable candidates for the positions of:
• Social Media Officer
• Sponsorship Officer
Please direct expressions of interest for these officer roles to deakincrs@gmail.com

When will your first event be held and what will it be about?
While we intend to host regular club meetings via zoom, our first official event – “Demystifying Clinical Research” will be held in April and will focus on introducing clinical research, its importance, where it fits in to your current studies and future career, and how to get involved with it.

We are looking forward to an exciting and informative year ahead!
