Medications for opioid use disorder—methadone, buprenorphine, and naltrexone—are proven medical treatments that save lives.

Last year, we expanded access across Pennsylvania by bringing this treatment to more settings—including two additional mobile medication units, bringing the total to four statewide—supporting medication access in correctional settings, and reducing delays to starting medication through telehealth-enabled evaluations.

Recovery is personal. There’s no one timeline for being on medication—care decisions are guided by medical providers and individual needs.

When someone you love enters drug or alcohol treatment, it’s common to wonder: What am I supposed to do now?

Support doesn’t always mean doing more. Sometimes it means stepping back, respecting boundaries, and caring for yourself.

It’s . Puzzles build focus, patience, and connection—the same skills that help young people handle stress, support their mental health, and navigate pressures around drugs and alcohol.

Prevention builds those strengths early, before problems take root.

Across Pennsylvania, local drug and alcohol offices put those skills into practice through prevention programs supported by DDAP. Last year, those programs reached 216,000 youth—over 10,000 more than the year before.

That growth reflects the Shapiro Administration’s continued commitment to student mental health and well-being.

You may know your loved one needs help—before they’re ready to accept it.

That tension is one of the hardest parts for families. Understanding how treatment works, what your role is, and where support exists can make a difficult moment feel more manageable.

🥶 Brrr—it’s cold out there, Pennsylvania. This cold can freeze Narcan stored in cars, bags, or outdoor kits.

When frozen, the naloxone spray won’t work. Let it fully thaw at room temperature (about 15 minutes), and it will be effective again.

If an overdose is suspected, don’t wait—call 911 right away. If the person isn’t breathing or is breathing slowly, provide rescue breathing until Narcan can be given and help arrives.

Get free Narcan—mailed to your home or available locally—through our Overdose Prevention Program partners. Link in the comments. ⤵️
