TL:DR - Even massage therapists need massage therapy sometimes, and every time I get treated when I'm really in pain, it blows me away how much it helps! 😊😊
People often ask me if I get massage therapy treatment too, because I do such physical work.
The answer is, of course!
The funny thing is, doing this work all the time, I sometimes forget what it feels like to be a patient. One of the reasons I like getting treated is that it helps remind me how helpful massage therapy can be.
I threw my neck out on Monday. I couldn't move. I couldn't roll over in bed, I couldn't sit up, I couldn't lift my arms up without excruciating upper back and neck pain..😫
Tuesday was awful. I had to take breaks while attempting to complete ANY task, because my neck was screaming at me.
Wednesday was still awful. Maybe even getting worse, as the muscles that were compensating were also getting incredibly tired and sore.
One of my go-to massage therapists, the lovely Andrea Wichmann at Vitality Smithville, was kind enough to get me in for an amazing, gentle and effective treatment on Wednesday afternoon.
What a game changer. If ever I doubt the effectiveness of this work, I only need to get treated when I'm in pain to remember how helpful this can be.
Is the pain gone? Definitely not. It took me a while to screw my back up this badly, and it won't be a quick fix.
But am I functional today and able to work and move? Sure am! I got up off the treatment table with minimal apprehension and minimal pain. I was more mobile, way more comfortable, and today the symptoms are so much more manageable.
This also means that I'm moving more normally today, which should help my nervous system to calm down a bit and facilitate a return to normal pain free movement.
If you've read this far, thanks for sticking it out!
And if you're dealing with pain, think about booking an appointment with a good RMT. So often this intervention can be incredibly helpful and get you back moving again! 😁😁
