Great first Camp Careful assemblies at Axtell ISD this morning. Spoke to both junior high and high school assemblies with greater than 50% opt-in rate. This is great for a first time in a smaller district where many parents are not familiar with me and the work that we do at the Advocacy Center. Looking forward to many years of involvement with the district. Thank you to the superintendent Dr. Proctor, Principal Brandon Dieterich, and Rebecca Heidt (campus social worker) for bringing this to the district and families there! PARENTS: ask your kids what they learned today!

Almost 400 Lorena Primary students and staff attended Camp Careful today (90% opt-in)!! So proud of these kids. Every year they remember more and more of what they've heard/learned the past 5 years with me. Amazing families and district and kids. Favorite comments today:
1. What if it's a secret that I have ants on my body and I want to keep them as friends?
2. Me pointing to my breasts and asking what these are called and a kid yells "BOSOM!!"
3. My mom would LOVE you!
4. Don't get in their white van! (Happens every year. What is it about white vans and strangers?🤣🤣)

Thank you to Sunnye Forrest the amazing counselor who has scheduled Camp Careful since 2021 and is gonna be retiring after this year. You're the best!

Thank you Mrs. Bowling and Mrs. Nuness for having me speak to the kindergartners at Connally ECC today. What a great group of kids and families who learned about keeping their bodies safe! 85% opt-in is fantastic, particularly for this being the FIRST time at Connally ISD for Camp Careful. So thankful for the district/school! 110 new body safety learners today!

Prevention starts with education

Years ago, I planned an informal get-together at the Advocacy Center with my son, his friends, and their moms to listen to a talk about private parts and “stranger danger.” Little did I know that this talk would morph into me becoming the teacher and founder of a program called Camp Careful. The get-together became a class and the class found its way outside my small circle of friends. With the help of social media, Camp Careful was able to grow and has educated over 6000 parents and children on the topic of child sexual abuse prevention.

Camp Careful teaches children about protecting their private parts, keeping safe boundaries, and learning what to do in uncomfortable situations. Teenagers learn about safe relationships, consent, and how to safely & legally navigate social media. Parents learn how to talk to their kids about their bodies and how to recognize signs/symptoms of possible abuse. What are you waiting for? Sign up today and start those important conversations with your children!
