For the tail end of local watermelon season, try something new with this super simple, sweet and savory (is that too many S's?) Watermelon Salad. Make it kid-friendly by passing the jalapenos and chives on the side.

Watermelon is the rare fruit that I tend to tire of quickly. But a sweet/savory watermelon salad from Ceres Table (yum!) made me see more possibilities for this pink behemoth. Sweet, juicy watermelon cools off the jalapeno heat so nicely.

If you are concerned about chemicals increasing rates of cancer, early puberty, and infertility: contact your senator today! The Senate is finally poised to introduce a bill to reform the 1976 Toxic Substances Control Act. Imagine, not having to rely on consumers to monitor BPA, flame retardants, phthlates, etc.

After years of discussion, a congressional committee this week will hold a vote on a bill to reform the law that governs the manufacture of chemicals.

I went to a fennel pickling workshop (thanks, Slow Food Chicago!) and Jeannie, knowing that I love making green smoothies, suggested trying the fronds in a smoothie. So I did: fennel, mint, strawberries, and peach, plus the healthy goodness of kale. Yum!

I love fennel, but have discarded way too many withered fronds after saving them in the refrigerator, thinking that I'll find some obscure use for them. Bring on the blender!

This asian vinaigrette is so tasty (and easy) that I made this salad three times last week. Hmmm... maybe I'll have it for lunch again today... http://www.savorra.com/2012/05/salad-with-soy-vinaigrette/

I created this soy vinaigrette to go with some Asian greens from our CSA and it is a hit! Try the salad three different ways: plain, with leftover chicken chunks, or with leftover slices of steak.

The ZipList shopping list app is truly making my life so much easier. At least the grocery shopping portion of life. :) Scroll to the bottom of this Harvest Moon CSA newsletter for the full scoop.

Just sign up at ZipList.com and you can now access your grocery shopping list from any computer or smartphone. I am much better at finding my phone (usually) than a random piece of paper, and if that were not enough, the app program has other fun features too.

Great POV on the need for chemical reform

All Americans, including pregnant women, are carrying these chemicals -- including ones that did not exist 50 years ago -- around in their blood and fatty tissue. No one in the federal government has a handle on the problem or the authority to restrict chemicals in common sense ways.

Made an avocado smoothie for the first time this morning. Yum! So thick and creamy, it was like a milkshake.

Sign this petition from the FACT organization to limit the overuse of antibiotics in livestock. You are what you eat!

Show the White House that there is great concern about the misuse and overuse of antibiotics in animal agriculture and that action must be taken to end the injudicious use of these life-saving drugs. With antibiotic resistant bacterial infections on the rise, we need the White House and the FDA to t...

Just made this tonight. Yum!!! It reminds me of deviled eggs. Plus, I made the sauce in five minutes and popped it in the oven for 15. I heart Barefoot Contessa. Thanks for a great recipe!

Food Network invites you to try this Mustard-Roasted Fish recipe from Ina Garten.

Kid-friendly cabbage with just 20 minutes of your time!

I put together this simple cabbage recipe to use as a side for some rather blah leftovers and it was a big hit. It has a tasty sweetness with enough savory flavors to make it taste complex and keep you going back for more, while still being simple to prepare.

Fish tacos with radishes! Look out radishes, you may join kale as one of my new favorite vegetables. I usually double the recipe and we love it on day two. I heart tasty leftovers.

This is a very tasty fish taco--adapted from a Bobby Flay grilling recipe--that my whole family loves. I've incorporated radishes and kohlrabi--two of my perennial "what do I do with this?" CSA vegetables. Even the kids chowed down the radishes and kohlrabi.
