Join Practice SF in giving back, spreading kindness, and showing how together we can be a force for good.

We proudly support several local non-profits whose missions are close to our hearts and our minds, so if you have the means, please consider donating to:

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

Thanksgiving is a time for families and friends to gather and express thanks for the year's fortunes and joys!

With gratitude as the central theme, it's also a time to help our kids better understand the meaning of thanksgiving, what it means to be thankful, and the importance of giving back.

And - when children see gratitude, kindness, and awareness modeled by the adults around us they learn a fundamental lesson: joy stems from appreciating and sharing what’s around us!

To support these ideas, we wanted to share an amazing list of books that model gratitude from - we've added the link to our Linktree!

Wishing you laughter, joy, the warmth of having family and friends around, and lots of stuffing this Thanksgiving!

A recent study by the Yale Medical School’s Child Study Center showed that explicit social emotional learning in schools improved academic achievement, and it improved both GPA and test scores of students!

Social Emotional Learning is important because it helps students navigate and recognize healthy/unhealthy dynamics, and improve their ability to mend and maintain friendships - through things like interactive group discussions and skill-building activities.

SEL empowers students to feel more confident, connected, and capable in their everyday interactions.

Practice San Francisco partners with schools in San Francisco, Marin and across the Bay Area to offer these kinds of evidence based programs for students, as well as for teachers and parents.

What is Adolescence ?

This is the question that Practice SF's School-based Services team delivered two successful parent education sessions on, at a San Francisco private school last week.

Adolescence challenges parents to shift their parenting style from direct authority to guiding autonomy, allowing teens to develop a sense of independence and self management.

The education session, led by two .sf clinicians, focused on strategies to nurture an adolescent's emotional health, creative exploration, social bonds, and desire for new experiences, with an emphasis on the importance of connection and validation from parents.
Clinicians provided parents with techniques for open communication and dealing with difficult situations by encouraging them to offer supportive guidance to foster healthy interdependence - allowing their teens to form their own identities while also maintaining strong, supportive relationships with family.

November is National Adoption Month - a time to celebrate families built through adoption and to renew our commitment to making the adoption process safer, more ethical, and truly centered on each child’s well-being. It is also a time to bring the voices and stories of adoptees that are often left unheard, upfront and center. Every Family has a story!

Awareness about adoption in general is crucial for understanding the complexity of adoption itself. This includes the questions, the grief, the hidden trauma, and the resilience it takes to make sense of two identities, two histories, and two families.

At Practice SF, we are proud to have someone on staff who, as an adoptee themselves, has unique insight, specialized training, and a profound understanding of the inherent challenges of navigating an identity rooted in dual narratives, and making sense of one's origins. ⭐️Dina Greenwald⭐️ is an adoption competent therapist and is dedicated to supporting all members of the adoption constellation.

Book a consultation call today via the link in our bio to learn more about Dina and schedule an initial appointment. ☺️

Here are some local and national adoption resources where you can learn more:

Practice SF's fundraiser to raise money and collect food donations for the SF-Marin Food Bank is still on!

Food insecurity rises during November and the holidays due to :

Increased financial pressures from heating, electricity
Gifts and celebrations
Reduced access to school-based meal programs for children

So even though the Govn't shut down is "over", people in the community may still be in need - that's why we are accepting food goods through the end of this month and into December at our San Francisco and Mill Valley locations.

You can donate to our online fundraiser via the link in our linktree under "Latest Updates"!

Thank you for coming together as a community and for the community 💖

Happy World Kindness Day!

This day is dedicated to practicing simple acts of kindness while teaching the values of empathy, compassion, and generosity.

Teaching your child to express gratitude for the friends will lead to deeper and more lasting relationships.

On this World Kindness Day, encourage your children to reflect on how they show appreciation for their friends and others, and about how they feel when they are appreciated. This will help reinforce the idea that mutual respect and gratitude are essential to healthy, lasting friendships.
