Keeping up with tradition from my home country today we celebrate Grandma March! Hope it brings everyone health and happiness 🙂

Baba Marta and Martenitsa

On the 1st of March Bulgarian people celebrate a traditional holiday called Baba Marta (or Grandma Marta in English) and it is related to welcoming the approaching spring. Peolpe all over the world meet spring with joy and new hopes but in Bulgaria it is saved as an ancient tradition.

One of the most ancient traditions in Bulgaria is called “Baba Marta” (literally – “Grandma March”). The martenitsa is a piece of decoration in red and white, which has two main versions. The traditional one consists of two little dolls – Pizho, the male, is red and Penda, the female, is white. You would usually pin this on your clothes. The other version is a bracelet, made of one red and one white thread, which you can put on your hand. The colors of the martenitsa symbolize Bulgarian beliefs: white is for good health and red is for fertility and to scare away the bad spirits

One of the biggest challenges as a new mom is making time for ourselves. We always put everyone else first. We make sure our family and home are taking care of. The problem is after time we're burnt out and unable to finish everything on the to do list. I like to make the analogy with someone in eme...

You know you’re in the right place when your husband asks you if you’d like to take a long relaxing bath while he’s on daddy duty. No material gift can replace that! Happy anniversary month to us - five years ago this month I met the most loving, thoughtful person!

Growing up in Bulgaria was always . We didn’t exchange presents till New Year’s Eve. On Christmas Eve the whole family gets together for a traditional Christmas Eve dinner, all vegetarian. It marked the last day of the holiday fast. My favorite part was the loaf of bread. We put a coin inside before baking it. At dinner everyone in the family gets a piece, as well as Jesus, Virgin Mary, the house, the pets. Whoever gets the coin in their piece is the luckiest during the coming new year. I try to keep the as much as possible and focus on this year more than ever! My favorite memory from this time of year 5 years ago is meeting my husband. came true! Going to sleep tonight I want to tell all the little and big kids : never stop ! Even though it doesn’t seem as magical as usual this year put it out in the universe! Spend extra time with friends and family, even though it’s over the phone or online. It’s good for your soul and will make you feel better!

The week after thanksgiving is my favorite time to decorate the house for Christmas! Of course this year’s decorating process was different... No breakable items around our almost 4 year old daughter, no striving for perfection or creativity. This year is about and . This year more than than ever we need to focus on family and things that matter. Not the material part of the holiday.

Happy thanksgiving!! A different one this year, but a good reminder to count our and be for everything we have. I’ll never forget the first thanksgiving months after moving to United States, thousands of miles away from my family. The smell of good food and the first snow outside made me feel like my family was close around. Wishing everything and patience for the days when we can celebrate together again.
