Born with a rare and life-threatening heart defect called total anomalous pulmonary venous return or TAPVR, Victoria entered the world needing heart surgery.
Her mom, Olympic gold medalist Dominique Moceanu, knew something was wrong from the very first moment she held her baby and heard her heavy breathing.
Rainbow cardiologist Dr. Sarah Plummer explained that 24 hours after Victoria was born routine testing revealed her oxygen levels were too low and she was then diagnosed with TAPVR.
What followed was every parent's worst nightmare. Two hospital transfers, a Memorial Day emergency, and a surgery that lasted hours.
But at 3:04 p.m. on that unforgettable day, Dominque and her husband Mike received a text message they prayed for: "We are all done. We wish Victoria a wonderful life with her family."
Today, Victoria is 3 years old – bouncing, giggling, and living up to every bit of her name that means victory – perfect for the little heart warrior she is!
Dominique about her daughter: "She melts our heart. She is a bright light everywhere she goes; she makes people smile. She will light up a room when she goes into it. She's a beautiful soul."
Congenital heart disease affects 1 in every 100 babies – but with the right care, children like Victoria go on to live long, full, beautiful lives.
