Its sneaky.
It masquerades as “an eye for detail”
Or “high standards”
But the truth is the time for detail and raising standard is AFTER the first draft is COMPLETE.
If you find yourself fixating on teeny tiny details before the thing is finished (first draft) that, my beautiful friend, is perfectionism.
But logically you understand that nothing is ever perfect and there is always room for improvement and etc etc etc and yet still, you’re unable to finish the thing and move things forward with momentum.
Why?
Fear.
Fear of getting it wrong.
Fear of getting it right.
Fear of falling and failing with everyone watching.
So what’s the solution?
Feel the fear and do it anyway.
Here no magic switch for fear.
It’s natural to worry about what others will think.
You can’t switch that off.
But what you can do is increase your capacity to feel the fear, let it be there, and then do the thing anyway.
You increase your tolerance for comfort in discomfort.
And why is this important!?
Because until you can learn to finish what you start you will never trust yourself to actualise the big vision.
The business you want to scale, the relationship you dream of and the family you want to create…loosening the grip perfectionism has over you is crucial.
P.s. I’ve put together a free 10 minute ritual that you can use in the moments when the fear feels too much.
