Elayne Walker-Cabral Medical Scholarship Endowment Elayne Walker-Cabral was a strong, helpful member of our community with a passion for mentoring students of all ages. In Mrs.

She was a lifelong learner of many subjects, setting a positive example to her mentees. She continued her passion by serving as the director of the Met Community School for more than twenty years. Elayne had a personal connection with many people in her community that has forever influenced our growth. In 2016 Elayne unexpectedly passed away from a form of Cardiovascular disease. In 2017 the community was looking forward to a memorial event to mark her one year anniversary. Idalys Perez organized this event and emphasized celebrating Elayne’s legacy, educating ourselves on Cardiovascular disease, and donating funds to local causes. We achieved this by donating to the American Heart Association and sponsoring the Elayne Walker-Cabral Medical Scholarship. Elayne was a strong supporter of continuing education. In this spirit, the Medical Scholarship was established to support graduating Met High School students continuing their education in the healthcare field. In 2018 we established an Endowment fund with the Rhode Island Foundation to make an ongoing impact. This Endowment allows us to make the medical scholarship permanent as a testimony to Elayne’s memory. Our goal is to support our scholars in their aspirations and continue our education in our health. Elayne’s name, I hope you choose to support our cause. If you would like to make a donation, you can do so electronically through this link https://bit.ly/ewcendowment if you prefer to donate by check please message this page or email Idalys.perez@metmail.org for more information. Your support is greatly appreciated.

The Elayne Walker-Cabral Medical Scholarship is made possible by the support of our community. The scholarship is especially supported by Ms. Elayne’s family and close friends, including Ms. Elayne’s late great aunt, Largie M. Richardson. Aunt Largie lived in Massachusetts, loved her family and community, aided various charities, and obtained a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from Salve Regina University. Before her passing in 2020, Aunt Largie dedicated a portion of her memorial trust to the Elayne Walker-Cabral Medical Scholarship Endowment Fund. Her trust also made contributions to the United Negro College Fund and the Kenneth R Walker Scholarship Fund at Providence College. Thank you Largie Richardson for your charitable contribution and your influence on Ms. Elayne, as well as our greater community.
