💡Top tips to beat adrenal fatigue

This month we've been exploring what happens when your adrenals can no longer cope and you're left with no energy 😩.

Here are some simple ways you can help your body recover from adrenal fatigue 👇

🌟 Vitamin C: Your adrenals burn through vitamin C during stress - topping up helps regulate cortisol production and supports adrenal repair.
🌟 Magnesium: Helps calm your nervous system, promotes deeper sleep, and supports a healthier cortisol response.
🌟 B Vitamins (particularly B5, B6 & B12): Can support energy production, hormone balance, and your nervous system. They’re often depleted in adrenal fatigue, so topping up can make a noticeable difference to energy levels.
🌟Adaptogens (like ashwagandha & rhodiola): Great for helping your body adapt to stress, stabilise cortisol, and support your mental health.
🌟 Prioritise proper rest & sleep: Establishing a decent wind-down routine is a must to reset your stress hormones: dim lights, no screens, warm bath, and light stretching could help.
🌟 Eat to balance blood sugar: Skipping meals or living on caffeine forces your adrenals to constantly firefight. Eat protein, healthy fats, and slow-release carbs every 3 to 4 hours to keep energy stable.
🌟 Swap intense workouts for gentle movement: Choose walking, yoga, Pilates or light strength training to calm instead of stress your system.
🌟 Spend more time outdoors: Just 20 minutes outside can lower cortisol, boost mood, and help reset your nervous system.

🌟 New blog: Adrenal Fatigue explained: Why you’re exhausted no matter how much you rest

Are you getting a solid 8 hours of sleep, yet dragging yourself out of bed? You need caffeine just to feel human ☕, struggle to keep your eyes open by mid-afternoon 😵‍, snap at tiny things, and feel constantly on edge?

You could have adrenal fatigue: a type of adrenal exhaustion that develops when long-term stress keeps your body pumping out cortisol.

If your body is constantly firefighting, adrenal experts like Dr James Wilson and Dr Andrew Neville believe your whole stress-response system (the HPA axis) can get stuck in overdrive. Leaving you feeling burnt out and unable to relax, with symptoms like exhaustion, cravings for salty or sweet foods 🍟🍫, brain fog, and low mood or anxiety.

But there are things you can do to help your stress-response system recover, including something as simple as taking the right supplements!

And we're sharing the must-have nutrients experts like Dr Wilson and Dr Neville recommend to help you feel more balanced in our new blog.

From vitamin C 🍊, to magnesium, B vitamins ⚡, soothing adaptogens 🌱, and anti-inflammatory omega-3s 🐟, we walk you through the top supplements for getting your spark back ✨.

⁉️Could you have adrenal fatigue?

Following on from our deep dive into cortisol, we're sharing some info on adrenal fatigue - where your adrenal glands can no longer cope with demand 😩 leaving you feeling exhausted and burned out 😴.

The symptoms can overlap with stress, anxiety, and thyroid issues, but your body does send clues if you're adrenals aren't where they should be.

Here's what to look out for 👇

🧡 Persistent tiredness: Not just 'a bit sleepy', this is the kind of fatigue that lingers no matter how early you go to bed.

🧡 Slow starts in the morning: Many people with adrenal fatigue describe feeling 'stuck in low gear' for the first few hours of the day. It can take extra time - and often caffeine - to feel fully switched on.

🧡 Afternoon crashes: Energy levels can suddenly plummet in the early-to-mid afternoon, making it hard to stay productive.

🧡 Cravings for salty or sugary foods: Your body may look for quick fixes when cortisol and blood sugar become harder to regulate. Salt cravings are common because your adrenal hormones also influence sodium balance - can't put the crisp packet down? It could be adrenal fatigue.

🧡 Mental fogginess: Difficulty focusing or problems with memory, can both signal that stress hormones are disrupting your brain’s activity.

🧡 Low mood or increased anxiety: When your stress response is overworked, your brain’s feel-good chemicals can take a hit.

🧡 Dizziness when standing up: A drop in blood pressure - especially when moving from sitting to standing - can happen when the adrenal hormones that regulate circulation aren’t firing as they should.

🧡 Reduced stress resilience: Tasks you breezed through may now feel disproportionately draining. Even small challenges can tip you into overwhelm.

If these symptoms sound familiar, it could be adrenal fatigue. Stay tuned for our new blog on why it happens 👀, and how to start recovering ❤️‍🩹 .

👀 New blog: Is it insomnia? Or does your bedtime routine just need a revamp...

Ever find yourself wide awake at 3am, wondering why you can’t just switch off 😩?

You’re not alone, 1 in 6 of us in the UK struggle with sleep according to a new study - but the cause might not be what you think.

According to sleep expert: Dr Michael Grandner, the real culprit behind chronic insomnia isn’t stress itself… it’s conditioned arousal - where your brain has learned to associate bedtime with wakefulness instead of rest 😣.

But there’s good news - you can re-train your sleep patterns naturally, and one of the best ways to do this is by reserving your bed exclusively for sleep (and s*x 😉).

If you'd like to discover some more of Dr Grandner's top tips for getting a decent night's rest, we're sharing all the best ones on our new blog. From sleep supporting supplements, to dim lighting, ear plugs and white noise - there are all kinds of simple steps you can take to start sleeping soundly again.

🌙 Trouble sleeping? Here’s what one of the world’s top sleep experts recommends

Ever heard of Dr Michael Grandner? His work has helped to inform how experts treat insomnia worldwide.

In a podcast with one of our favourite health experts, Rhonda Patrick, Dr Grandner shared these helpful, easy to action tips for better sleep 👀:

🛏️ Reserve your bed for sleep (and s*x) only
Your brain loves patterns. If bed = sleep, it will learn to switch off faster. But if you scroll, snack, or stress in bed, your body associates it with staying alert instead.

💡 Wind down gently
Spend the last 30 -60 minutes before bed doing activities that aren't too stimulating: dim the lights, stretch, or read a real book (No e-readers allowed!).

🎧 Protect your 'sleep bubble'
Block out disruptions that might disturb your snooze time with earplugs, an eye mask, or white noise. Fewer micro-arousals means deeper, more restorative sleep.

📵 Make the bedroom screen-free
Blue light and notifications tell your brain it’s daytime. If you must check your phone, do it sitting up, or away from the bed.

Don’t force it
If you wake up in the night and can’t drift back quickly, get up and do something calm until you feel sleepy again.

🌙 Try a sleep encouraging supplement
As this podcast is from the US, Michal talks about melatonin - which isn’t available over the counter in the UK. We'd recommend magnesium as a brilliant alternative to help you relax. Our Tri-Magnesium Night Complex patch blends three highly bioavailable forms of magnesium with ashwagandha and L-theanine to help calm your mind and ease you into sleep naturally. Get yours here:

✨ Our recommended supplements to help lower cortisol

These clever patches can help re-balance your cortisol levels - and we’ve got the happy customer feedback to prove it too!

Here are your must-haves 🏆:

🌸 Magnesium (and Ashwagandha)
Magnesium helps calm your nervous system and supports healthy communication within the HPA axis - your body’s central stress-control network.

💤 Try our MagnaCalm Patch, which combines magnesium with ashwagandha - an adaptogen that multiple studies show lowers cortisol and regulates your stress response. Can't sleep? The Tri-Mag Complex is your bedtime hero - with three of the most bioavailable forms of magnesium PLUS ashwagandha and L-theanine to help you drift off naturally.

💬 “These are so good! I was always forgetting to take my pills, but I keep these next to my bed and put them on at night.”

🍊 Vitamin C
Your adrenal glands use up a lot of vitamin C to produce and regulate cortisol, and stress can quickly deplete your reserves.
💪 Our Vitamin C Plus patch helps replenish these stores, supporting adrenal recovery and reducing the oxidative damage caused by prolonged stress.

💬 “Really good and do what they say.”

🐟 Omega-3 Fatty Acids
Omega-3s help lower inflammation and calm the stress response, reducing cortisol levels over time. And support brain and heart health too!
💧 Our Omega-3 Plus Patch delivers all these benefits with NO fishy aftertaste and great results.

💬 "So easy to use, and apply this topical patch.
And far better than oral supplements as my body absorbs all the Omega 3 this supplement provides."

🍫 Good news for chocolate lovers (sort of)!

New research from COSMOS trial has shown that cocoa extract, rich in natural plant compounds called flavanols, may help reduce inflammation linked to ageing 😋.

🔥 More Cocoa = less “inflammaging”
People taking a daily cocoa extract supplement had around 8% lower levels of inflammation each year (measured by a marker called hsCRP - a signal of chronic inflammation in the body).

❓Why should you want to lower inflammation?
Chronic, low-grade inflammation is a key factor in ageing and age-related health issues, from heart disease, to decreased mobility, and lower energy levels.

🤔 Why is this study such a big deal?
Over 21,000 adults aged 60+ took part in this gold standard randomised trial, one of the largest ever of its kind.

💡 But before you reach for your favourite chocolate bar…
Remember this study was about cocoa extract, not sugary chocolate. The benefits come from specifically from cocoa’s flavanols, plant nutrients also found in berries, green tea and apples.

👀 What’s the main takeaway from the research?
A diet rich in plant-based foods 🌱 and natural antioxidants can help support healthy ageing and keep you younger for longer. Be sure to add cocoa extract to your supplement shopping list.

🍫 Did you know Cocoa flavanols may help reduce inflammaging?

So what's inflammaging? As we age, our bodies experience low-grade, chronic inflammation known as inflammaging. This state accelerates aging and increases the risk of heart disease, disability, and early death.

Our fave health expert, Dr Rhonda Patrick, recently shared new findings from COSMOS (COcoa Supplement and Multivitamin Outcomes Study) - and the results are quite the eye opener 👀.

➡️ Taking 500mg of cocoa flavanol supplements each day reduced inflammation markers by 8.4% per year.

➡️ Cocoa flavanols measurably lowered high-sensitivity CRP (C-reactive protein) - one of the best ways to track chronic, low-grade inflammation, linked to heart disease, diabetes, and faster biological ageing.

➡️ The biggest benefits were seen in people with higher inflammation, including women, and those with diabetes.

➡️ Other inflammatory markers didn’t change, suggesting cocoa flavanols specifically target CRP. Previous research also links cocoa flavanols to better blood pressure, and even heart and eye health.

➡️ Cocoa isn’t a magic bullet - but could be helpful to dial down silent inflammation as you get older. Choose flavanol-rich foods like cocoa, berries, and green tea - that Dairy Milk bar won't cut it!

Our Story

Sadie, our founder was diagnosed with ME/CFS in 2012 and later with Lyme disease. Her ill health meant she had no choice but to stop working, close her software company in Hong Kong and move back to the UK.

She spent years using various holistic interventions to regain her health, from diet to ozone therapy and many things in between. Each had a positive impact on her wellbeing, finally culminating in an ability and a need to, ‘Do something other than being ill!’

PatchMD vitamin patches from the USA were one of the successful interventions, but they weren’t readily available in the UK/EU, so in 2018 she founded PatchWorks UK and now imports them to sell this side of The Pond.
