🦋 Our top 5 recommended supplements to support your thyroid:

If you’re female, you’re around 5–8 times more likely to develop a thyroid disorder, with research showing around 1 in 8 women will experience a thyroid issue in their lifetime 🤯.

But there are steps you can take to support your thyroid, and one of the most effective is as simple as taking the right supplements 🙌.

Your thyroid relies on certain vitamins and minerals to produce, activate and regulate hormones properly. Here are your 5 thyroid essentials 🧡:

1️⃣ Iodine

Your thyroid can’t make thyroid hormones without enough iodine. In fact, thyroid hormones (T3 and T4) are made from iodine and the amino acid tyrosine. Not getting enough can lead to reduced hormone production and a slower metabolism 🐌.

2️⃣ Selenium

Another must-have mineral which your body needs to convert the inactive thyroid hormone T4 into the active form, T3. Low levels can lead to slower thyroid function and symptoms like fatigue, brain fog, weight gain and feeling cold 🥶.

3️⃣ Zinc

Zinc helps with thyroid hormone production and also supports how those hormones signal to your other cells, making sure your body can actually keep your energy, metabolism and temperature steady 💪.

4️⃣ B Vitamins

B vitamins help convert food into energy and assist with hormone metabolism. B12 deficiency is more common in people with thyroid disorders, particularly autoimmune ones. So if this is a concern, try topping up your B12 😊.

5️⃣ Vitamin A

Vitamin A plays a role in regulating TSH (thyroid-stimulating hormone), the signal from your brain telling your thyroid how hard to work. If you’re low in vitamin A, that signalling can be disrupted, throwing your thyroid hormones off track 😩.

And guess what? Our handy T-Synergy Patch contains ALL 5 of these thyroid supporting goodies 🌟.

Tired… even after a full night’s sleep? 😴

Maybe your thyroid is to blame 🦋…

This butterfly-shaped gland is essential for a healthy metabolism and synthesising hormones you need for 100s of bodily processes ⚡️. It plays a HUGE role in your energy, metabolism, mood, and body temperature 🌡️.

Yet up to 60% of people with a thyroid condition are unaware they have it, meaning many are living with symptoms for years before they realise the cause 😔.

Here are some of the sneaky symptoms which you might not connect to thyroid imbalance:

✨ Constant fatigue that sleep doesn’t fix
✨ Brain fog and poor concentration
✨ Always feeling cold
✨ Unexplained weight gain or weight loss
✨ Low mood, feeling flat, or unmotivated

On their own, these symptoms might seem random. But if you’re experiencing them together, it could be a sign that your thyroid isn’t working properly 🚩

Want to find out more? Look out for our new blog, where we’ll be sharing all the telltale symptoms your thyroid function might be subpar 👀. PLUS the must-have supplements that could help support thyroid health 💪.

💛 Why Sadie started PatchWorks...

After years of living with ME/CFS and later Lyme disease, our founder Sadie found that standard supplements weren’t supporting her recovery 😫. Digestive issues and poor absorption meant that tablets often fell short, something backed up by research suggesting up to 50% of nutrients can be lost during digestion 😦.

Then Sadie discovered transdermal vitamin patches, where the active ingredients are delivered slowly, throughout the day, via the skin, bypassing the gut. For her, this was a game changer, and made a huge difference to how she felt ☺️.

At the time, patches were difficult to access in the UK and EU, so in 2018, Sadie created PatchWorks to change that. Hoping to establish a brand to support people who struggle with traditional supplements: including those with gut conditions ✅, absorption issues ✅, bariatric patients ✅, or anyone who simply doesn't like taking pills!

The simple, effective way to take your vitamins, with no pills to swallow and measurable results. Find out more here ➡️ https://linkly.link/2bDBu

💡 New blog: Which type of collagen supplement is most effective?

Collagen powders are hugely popular, but are they actually doing what you think 🤔 ?

Around 10% of people in the UK have taken collagen in the last year, with powders proving most popular. They're convenient and often contain the highest dose, but there's a catch ⚠️ !

Collagen is a large protein, and once it reaches your digestive system it’s broken down by stomach acid and enzymes into peptides and individual amino acids. Those amino acids then join the body’s general supply and are used wherever they’re needed most, which isn’t necessarily your skin or joints 😫.

In our latest blog, we explore why collagen patches could offer a clever alternative, bypassing your digestive system altogether 👏,

Plus - you can find out which of our collagen patches is best depending on whether your priority is skin, joints, or overall wellbeing.

👀 Why vitamin patches?

Keen to top up your vitamins, but struggle with taking pills or powders 😔? Vitamin patches could be the answer!

Here’s why they can be a better option👇

🧡 Patches bypass the digestive system: Nutrients are delivered through the skin, straight into the bloodstream, avoiding the stomach and liver - ideal if you have absorption issues, IBS, gastroparesis, post-bariatric surgery, or a sensitive tummy.

🧡 Slow-release delivery: Instead of one large oral dose, nutrients are drip-fed steadily into your system over the 8 hours you wear the patch, which can be easier for the body to absorb and use.

🧡 Higher absorption for some nutrients: Because nutrients aren’t lost via excretion from the gut or broken down by the liver, more of what you take may actually reach the places that need a top up 🙌

🧡 No stomach upset or nausea: No more feeling queasy after taking your daily vitamins

🧡 No pill fatigue: Perfect if you struggle with swallowing tablets, or simply don’t want yet another supplement to remember to take.

🧡 Easy to use: Apply a patch in the morning or before bed, remove after around 8 hours - that's it 👌

🧡 Compact and travel-friendly: Smaller and lighter than bulky pill bottles, patches are easier to store, pack and transport - and better for the environment too 🌍

✨ EDS: What your body actually needs

Living with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome can mean joint pain, fatigue, gut issues and more 😔. While supplements aren’t a cure, the right nutrients can help support your health.

Here are our top 7 recommended supplements 🧡:

👉 Vitamin C: Essential for collagen formation, supporting connective tissue strength and wound healing.

👉 Vitamin D3 + K2: Important for bone health and calcium absorption, and may help normal blood clotting too.

👉 Glucosamine (with Chondroitin): Supports cartilage production and joint lubrication, helping joints move more smoothly.

👉 Vitamin B12: May help improve energy, brain fog and mood, and could support people with POTS, a common EDS comorbidity.

👉 Co-enzyme Q10: An antioxidant that supports cellular energy production and may help reduce fatigue.

👉 NAD (Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide): Plays a role in energy metabolism and muscle function, which could support posture and joint stability.

👉 Magnesium: Helps with muscle function, nerve support, calmness, cramps and even constipation - great for many EDS symptoms.

💡 Why patches are ideal for EDS;

Digestive issues like malabsorption are common in connective tissue disorders, meaning oral supplements aren’t always well absorbed. Vitamin patches deliver nutrients through the skin and bypass the gut, so you can get more consistent results 🙌

⚠️ Did you know February is peak vitamin D deficiency season in the UK?

From October to March, the sun is too low in the sky for our skin to produce vitamin D, even on clear days 🌞❌. By February, after months of weak sunlight and short days, most people’s vitamin D stores are at their lowest.

Why does this matter? Well, Vitamin D is an absolute must for:

🦴 Strong bones: Keeping your levels topped up helps your body absorb calcium and phosphorus from food. Low vitamin D can mean calcium can’t be used properly, which over time can weaken bones and increase the risk of fractures and osteoporosis ☹️.

🛡️ Immune function: You need decent D levels to activate immune cells like T cells and macrophages, which help your body respond effectively to viruses and infection. Low levels are associated with a poorer immune response; not ideal during winter illness season 😖.

🧠 Mood and energy: Low levels have been linked to fatigue and low mood, which many people notice in late winter

That’s why the NHS advises everyone in the UK to consider taking a daily vitamin D supplement during autumn and winter.
And our clever patches are a really easy, no-fuss way to top up consistently; just pop one on each day and you’re done 🙌.

⁉️ What is Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS)?

Heard of EDS 🤔? While the NHS still classifies it as a ‘rare’ condition (around 50 cases per 100,000 people), newer UK research suggests it may actually affect as many as 10 in every 5,000, showing just how often it goes unrecognised.

To help raise awareness, we’re sharing key facts about EDS that could be useful if you’re worried it might be affecting you or a loved one 👀:

1️⃣ What is EDS?
Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS) is a group of inherited connective tissue disorders that affects how your body makes collagen - the protein that gives strength and structure to your joints, skin, ligaments, blood vessels and organs. When collagen doesn’t form properly, connective tissue can become too stretchy, fragile or unstable - making your body more vulnerable to injury and strain.

2️⃣ Common symptoms of EDS:
⚠️Hypermobile or unstable joints
⚠️Frequent sprains, dislocations or injuries
⚠️Chronic pain and fatigue
⚠️Stretchy, fragile, or easily bruised skin
⚠️Slow wound healing and wide scars

3️⃣ Why it’s often missed:
On average, people with EDS wait 10–12 years until they receive a correct diagnosis 😩. This is because symptoms often overlap with other conditions and many drs aren’t trained to recognise the full spectrum of signs - especially for hypermobile EDS (hEDS) which doesn’t have a definitive genetic test.

4️⃣ Is there a cure?
There is currently no cure for Ehlers-Danlos syndromes (EDS), but physiotherapy, joint protection and taking the right supplements can all help to manage symptoms, reduce complications, and improve quality of life 👏.

⚠️ Why your vitamin D might not be working

If you saw our last post, you’ll know that February is a key month to top up vitamin D, because levels are often at their lowest by this point in the year 😫.

But don't forget to take magnesium too! Hot off the press research from Vanderbilt University suggests magnesium plays a crucial role in how vitamin D functions in the body; acting almost like a thermostat 😮.

The study found that:

➡️ Magnesium helped raise vitamin D levels in people who were deficient
➡️ It also helped regulate (and even lower) vitamin D in people who already had enough/more than enough

This shows Vitamin D doesn’t work alone, and if your magnesium levels are low, vitamin D may struggle to do its job - no matter how much you take ☹️

The good news? Taking both nutrients together can make a real difference. Many people choose to top up vitamin D alongside magnesium to support:

✅ Bone and muscle health
✅ Immune function
✅ More stable vitamin D levels

Our Story

Sadie, our founder was diagnosed with ME/CFS in 2012 and later with Lyme disease. Her ill health meant she had no choice but to stop working, close her software company in Hong Kong and move back to the UK.

She spent years using various holistic interventions to regain her health, from diet to ozone therapy and many things in between. Each had a positive impact on her wellbeing, finally culminating in an ability and a need to, ‘Do something other than being ill!’

PatchMD vitamin patches from the USA were one of the successful interventions, but they weren’t readily available in the UK/EU, so in 2018 she founded PatchWorks UK and now imports them to sell this side of The Pond.
