Social activist, renowned anaesthetist Dr N C Bose dies

Kolkata: Social activist and renowned anaesthetist Dr Narayan Chandra Bose died at a city nursing home on Sunday due to old age complications, his family said.
Dr Bose, 93, was a widower, and is survived by a son and two daughters.
A former president of the People’s Relief Committee (PRC), Dr Bose was close to the Leftists, especially the Communist Party of India-Marxist.
Born in a lower middle class family in Khulna (now in Bangladesh), Bose began his career as a doctor after completing the Licence of Medical Faculty degree from the National Medical College and Hospital (NMCH), Kolkata.
Being socially conscious since his youth, Dr Bose took great care in treating the needy, and later joined the PRC.
He later completed his MBBS from the Calcutta University.
Dr Bose spent long years teaching students at the NMCH and gained popularity among students, colleagues, researchers and hospital employees.
As per Dr Bose’s wish, his eyes were donated after his death. The last rites would be performed at Keoratala crematorium once his son arrives from abroad.
Condoling his death, West Bengal’s Left Front chairman and CPI-M state secretary Biman Bose said Bose was a true friend of the poor and a close friend of the Leftist. He was one of the leading figures in the formation of PRC.
“Whenever the state was struck by calamity of any kind, he and his physician friends always rushed to help the affected with relief,” said Biman Bose. [IANS]
