Tiny microphones inside the ears of a binaural head capture stereo sound in a very similar way to the human ear. Timing differences caused by the Pinna and skull enable our brain to work out where sound is coming from. When the resulting recording is listened to on quality headphones, the sound is astonishingly immersive and 3D, you can close your eyes and almost be there! The recording technique is the basis of ASMR, and this recent ocean recording in The Maldives will be part of Calmsound's first fully binaural nature album which will be out later this year @ South Ari Atoll, Maldives

On a previous trip to Ireland, I was able to capture this tranquil video at Glendalough in the Wicklow Mountains just south of Dublin. It's a beautiful place and well worth a visit if you go. Since people like to play the videos overnight to help them sleep, I've made this a ten hour loop and I hope you enjoy it 😊

Hi everyone, you may have noticed that www.calmsound.com was recently updated. This was mainly because the old Flash player didn't work on portable devices such as iPhones and other Apple products. The free sounds are exactly the same but the look and feel is obviously very different and it should now work on any device. If anyone is having trouble with the new site or has any other feedback, good or bad, then please let me know. I'm in the process of recording new sounds and videos, and writing original music so there is much more to come. It's the first day of summer today and I hope the sun is shining where you are.
