On this day in 1984, Ryan White was diagnosed with AIDS. At just 13 years old, his journey would change the way the world viewed HIV and the fight against AIDS. His courage in the face of stigma remains an inspiration.

The Ryan White Comprehensive AIDS Resources Emergency (CARE) Act of 1990 had a transformative impact on the lives of people living with HIV/AIDS in the United States. Named in honor of Ryan White, the CARE Act was the first federal law to provide comprehensive, targeted funding for HIV/AIDS care and services.
