Facts or Opinions

Goal: To teach kids about facts vs opinions.

Often we observe the little ones getting upset and affect over others’ opinions of them. Therefore it is important for them to learn and know what to believe and what to consider as someone's perspective. Being able to differentiate fact from opinion is important so to interpreting information accurately.

How to use this activity:
- First explain to children what is fact and opinion with examples.
- Place the fact and opinion mat in front of the child/children.
- Place the activity cards face down.
- Each child takes turn to take a card, flip over, read and place it on either the fact or opinion mat.

To all Moms out there. Blessed Mother’s Day.

Thank you for all the love and heart work that you have sowed into the lives of your little ones. May this day brings you much joy and comfort knowing that you are strong, courageous and blessed!

To the world, you maybe just another mom. To your little one, you are the world! You’re important and precious to them! ❤️

Thank You Autism Little Learners for this free book that teaches kids and empowering them to say no to being touched.

A social story about touching others had been on my “list to make” for a while now. A lot of teachers and parents have requested a story about "touching others". I had a student right now who loved to hug and kiss everyone. I loved that he was affectionate. It was so sweet! However, it was time to address the topic of consent. This story talks about asking to touch others and that we all have the right to say “no” to being touched.

Spot for the missing letters

Love how cute it turned out to be.

Materials needed:
- Print out the work mat
- laminate pouch
- velcro

What to do:
1) make sure that child has been introduced to the alphabet thru song or route
2) take each character and place them randomly on the letter mat
3) get child to identify which letter is covered by the character
4) get child to take the movable letter from the letter bank below
5) place the letter next to the character that covers that letter

Goals:
- to identify the missing letters
- to decode the missing letter for each character
- to reinforce the sequence of the letters
- to learn thru play

Let us know if you would like to us to share the number mat version. 😊

So true and love how this is being explained. Thank you The Therapist Parent

We can view the developing child’s brain as the ‘upstairs brain’ and ‘downstairs brain’. Dan Sigel describes the skills of the ‘upstairs brain’ as supporting our sound decision making (planning, controlling our emotions/body and also supporting our understanding of empathy and reason). Compared to the ‘downstairs brain’ which is responsible for our big emotions (like fear and anger) and our innate reactions/impulses like fight or flight. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
When the child becomes dysregulated, the ‘upstairs brain’ and ‘downstairs brain’ have trouble communicating and are not integrated. There is a term called ‘flipping your lid’- meaning the ‘upstairs brain’ is unable to monitor the actions of the ‘downstairs brain’. Rather than a reminder of the consequence or reward, what the child needs in this moment of dysregulation is connection, nurture and comfort. This approach supports the ‘downstairs brain’ integrating with the ‘upstairs brain’ to support the child to regulate and feel understood. Once the child is regulated, you then are more able to reason with the child! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
