🏎️ Who knew Formula One could teach us about wellbeing??

Watching Lando Norris win his first world championship got me thinking. The F1 season is long… and the Christmas season can feel even longer.

Not because we’re pretending to be racing drivers (I wish!) but because both require the same thing:

✅ FOUNDATIONS:
-Nervous system support
-Energy management
-Mood regulation
-Nutrition that actually helps.
-Mindset that keeps you going on the wobbly days
-And teamwork.

When you take care of the foundations, you set yourself up not just for today’s wins but for the long-term ones too.

🎄 Whether you’re in an F1 cockpit or navigating December overwhelmed, it’s the same principle:

Take care of your foundations to boost your overall wellbeing.
And if you’ll indulge me one final motorsport analogy:
You’re part of a bigger team (that’s your family, friends, work and other responsibilities) but YOUR PERSONAL WELLBEING is the engine.

🔑 You are the key to keeping the whole thing running.
Take care of you and the whole team benefits.

🙋‍♀️ So tell me, what do you need today?
A rest?
More energy?
A calmer pace?
Slightly improved nutrition? (One mince pie is fine but the whole box….hmm)

Your body will tell you. You just need to listen.

If this is resonated today, drop me a comment below on what one thing you need to focus on right now and let’s brainstorm together on how to give you the boost that you so richly deserve xx

40 seconds of peace just for you.

Follow along and feel the change.

Feeling a bit better? Wellbeing doesn’t have to be complicated.

The biggest gift I can give you is to remind you to take the time for yourself ❤️

On the 5th day of Calm-ish Christmas…
My true self gave to me 🎶 FIVE THRIVE GOLD RINGS 🎶
(aka: the real, slightly chaotic things keeping me semi-sane this December)

✨ Getting outside whenever I can (yes, even in the rain. The freedom is so liberating).

✨ My sacred adult chocolate drawer (that my husband keeps finding 😔everything in moderation, including treats).

✨ My whacky but efficient morning wellness cocktail (collagen, aloe, silver, echinacea - chuck it all in!)

✨ Doing something before bed that’s just for me (reading, journaling, meditate, stretch - I NEED me time so I don’t lose ny s**t doing things for everyone else)

✨ Aromatherapy as a micro-reset for my nervous system (in the office, by my bed, sometimes just a quick sniff of the bottle to regulate and relax).

These aren’t perfect routines but they’re small, honest moments that support me because let’s face it, life never slows down does it?

What’s on your Thrive Gold Rings list?

Day 4 of The Calm-ish Christmas Calendar 🎄

Today’s prompt: Tell someone exactly why you’re grateful for them 🥰

Not just “thanks for being there” but the specific, weird and wonderful why.
*The way they always text back “home safe.”
*How they know how to make a dodgy joke and crack the tension.
*That small act of kindness that meant so much.

🎤 Your mission today is to LET THEM KNOW!
Send a message. Make a toast. Drop a voice note. Say it out loud, even if it feels cheesy (and very American, sorry to American friends).

Last night I went out for dinner with girlfriends and decided to toast them all individually to let them know how much they mean to me in their own unique way and it felt so glorious to say things out loud. Let’s stop being so terribly British about everything, stiff upper lip and all that!

Tag a friend who makes life lighter just by being in it. 💛 I feel that people deserve to know the difference they make.

And if you can’t do it at Christmas, when can you? (Think I stole that line from Love Actually!)

DAY 3 of the Calmish Alternative Christmas Calendar.
It’s not all glitter and selection boxes.

What happens if it’s been a hard year?
If you’ve lost someone, or a relationship, or just feel like you’re holding it all together with string and hope?

This one’s for you.

Today, I walked past a man in the supermarket with two big boxes of chocolate biscuits in his trolley and just like that, I thought of my dad. A giggle, then a lump in my throat, then tears. I pulled my trolley aside and let them come. Because I don’t believe in pretending things are fine when they’re not.

So today’s invitation isn’t sparkle or gratitude.
It’s this:
✨ Feel all your feelings.
✨ Reach out to someone, even if the words feel messy.
✨ Remember everyone is carrying something, so lead with kindness.

And if this hit something in you please reach out. To a friend, to me, to someone you trust. You don’t have to hold it all alone.

Need more support?

Let’s not shove glitter on grief.

You’re allowed to feel it all.

Permission granted. This is your reminder to FEEL IT ALL.

I don’t want the filter, the good vibes only, the surface level chat - I want to hear it all: ups and downs, struggles and shame. Naming, sharing and releasing is the way forward.

I’m the kind of person who loves to deep dive into conversations, gently probe and to find out how someone is truly feeling.

And if I do that for others then I need to do that for myself.

I allow myself the time to truly feel it all, even if it’s uncomfortable, even if it’s not the right time… Or especially when it is uncomfortable and it’s not the right time.
🙋‍♀️ Do you?

If we don’t release it verbally or mentally, it will show up in other way physically. Support your mind, body, heart and health all at once.

DAY 2 of The Calm-ish Christmas Advent Calendar
Today is all about checking your emotional weather report.

Yesterday I had loads of energy (Instagram went wild: Rooted launch, podcast out and day 1 Calmish calendar).

Today?
A little more tired, a little slower, a little more like“I don’t have the energy today.” (And a little more like “yes I do actually NEED that biscuit with my cup of tea today”)

And that’s human.
Your emotions change daily, just like the weather. Some days are sunshine. Some days are drizzle. Some days are “please don’t ask me to do one more thing.”

Take 20 seconds to pause and ask:
“How am I actually feeling right now?”

Don’t judge it.
Just notice it.
That tiny moment of truth-telling is enough to calm your nervous system and help you support yourself in the way you really need. Once again your body has the answers. But are you listening?

🎄 Day 1 of The Calm-ish Christmas Advent Calendar 🎄

I thought it would be fun and actually helpful to give you one short daily action to keep your call this Christmas and not lose your s**t. The overwhelm is real… so let’s support ourselves (and save the Baileys for when we really need it).

Today we’re starting with something wonderfully simple, slightly silly and ridiculously effective: pretend you’re a tree!

Stand feet hip with apart. Feel the Earth beneath you. Feel grounded.

Add in the affirmation “I can bend with whatever life throws at me”.

This is real grounding, real nervous system support and even a tiny reset for the root chakra.

Try it today and let me know how it feels. (And if you want to know more of the benefits just let me know and we can geek out together).

I bet you’re already feeling the weight of Christmas, right?
…and we’re not even in December yet. 😮‍💨

It’s not just the gifts or the food.
It’s the remembering. The planning. The 5 different lists and 47 mental tabs open, all trying to make it magical for everyone else.

That mental load? It’s real and it’s a lot.

As a stress and burnout prevention specialist, I can tell you AWARENESS and QUICK WINS like shop bought, delegation (oooh controversial or even just delete the task) are your secret weapons.

So if you’re already stretched, here’s your gentle guide to making it lighter:

1. Name it– “I’m carrying a lot of the Christmas admin right now.” Naming it brings awareness.

2. Share it – Who’s wrapping? Who’s gifting? Who’s cooking? You don’t have to do it all.

3. Lower the bar – Frozen sides. Shop-bought desserts. No shame. It’s a game changer!

4. Set a boundary – Secret Santa, one-gift-per-household, homemade bakes. Small shifts = big sense of calm.

5. Peace over perfect – What if simple memories mattered more than the perfect present and table layout?

Your nervous system will thank you for every small decision that brings you back into balance.
If this season feels like a lot, you’re not alone and you have the opportunity to make it gentler.

💬 Tell me below: what’s one thing you’re simplifying this year?

Only 2 spots left for the best present you’ll get yourself before Christmas! Honest to God would you please put yourself at the top of your list? That is all. Thank you….oh yeah and by that I mean grab a space yeah?

DM me RESET for 1.5 hours JUST FOR YOU!

Let’s work through all of the draining, annoying, worrying and confusing things you have been experiencing lately.

I promise that things won’t be as scary or as out of balance as you think and we can help you feel so much better xx

What nobody tells you about starting over in a new country…

It’s humbling and kind of powerful.

For over a decade, I was fully booked (not in an arrogant way, just deeply grateful): 1:1 waitlists, word of mouth recommendations, workshops filled and always someone to support.

Marketing never felt like “marketing.” It was simply sharing what I loved.

Then we moved to Jersey 🇯🇪and everything slowed. New country, part-time work around two small children, lots of personal development work and hours of “hello let’s be friends” community building.

Sounds a bit intimidating doesn’t it? And yes it has been tiring (and yes I have often said “nice to meet you” when someone replies “good to see you again, doh! 🤦‍♀️) but honestly I’m grateful for the change.

The time and beautiful landscape have given me me space to reflect:
— Who do I really want to support?
— What symptoms, stories and struggles am I here for?
— How can I share it all with more clarity? (*ahem still working on that one…)

During this stillness, the answer became clear.
💫 I help people remember who they are when they don’t feel like themselves - stress, gut, hormones, anxiety, sleep - we use simple mind–body tools that restore resilience and strength from the root.

I will be offering all of this work across 1:1s, online courses and wellbeing projects for schools and workplaces.

And because it doesn’t sound like I’ve been busy enough 😅 I’ve also been quietly building something else in the background. It’s called ROOTED - a six week mind-body reset to help you come back to yourself.

I’ll share more next week, but if this sounds like something your nervous system is craving, DM me ROOTED and I will send you all the secret details right away. No pressure, just a quiet invite to see if it feels right.

Our Story

Hello, thanks for popping by. I’m Sarah Attwood and I run Thrive Health and Wellnes in Sherborne, Dorset. I'm a Kinesiology Practitioner and Professional Member of the Association of Systematic Kinesiology as well as being a Nutritional Advisor acredited by the Federation of Nutritional Therapy Practitioners. What's kinesiology I hear you say? Well it's a complementary therapy founded by a chiropractor who was interested in getting to the bottom of why his clients kept returning with recurring injuries. From there it has been developed to incorporate both Western and Eastern philosophies but essentially treats the body as a whole - hence the term 'holistic medicine.' I stumbled across it when I was very ill with M.E. for many years, unable to walk and using a wheelchair to get around. I tried so many treatments both traditional and complementary and kinesiology was the key for me unlocking my body and starting to heal. I found I had a latent virus hiding in my system, I was dehydrated and had developed all sorts of food intolerances which were really weakening my system. Basically my entire body was in a state of lock down and I was struggling with the basic tasks of washing and eating. There was no magic wand but I didm find that cutting out wheat, dairy, sugar and alcohol just for a little allowed time to reduce the inflammation and let my body reset. Removing these inflammatory markers and increasing my intake of supportive nutritional supplements allowed my body to stop wasting its time fighting these small battles (bread- pow! Dairy - take that!) and focus on the more important ones like getting me back to full strength. After a few weeks, my system had calmed down and I could introduce them again without any side effects. It's fascinating to see the effect a trigger food can have on a muscle. Muscle testing can demonstrate how some foods can literally make your body go weak - how cool is that! Based on the principle that a healthy body is in balance, kinesiology uses gentle muscle testing to test muscles/meridians and organs in the body to check how well they're functioning. Headaches, backache, IBS, digestive issues, chronic fatigue, stress and thinking that you 'just don't feel 100%' are all common reasons why people visit a kinesiologist. Emotions are another key factor. It's incredible really how many ailments can be linked to how we're feeling. Ever felt 'sick to your stomach' or go 'weak at the knees'? well these are just two example of everyday language in which our emotions can flood our body and cause physical reactions. It makes sense really. The mind is a powerful tool and one that we don't seem to fully control. Kinesiology can help with Emotional Stress Relief, regression, positive temporal tapping and all sorts of little tips and tricks to allow you to regain control. Bach flower remedies (my personal favourite, plus they contain a little alcohol which is a nice little boost!) can also be used to hep keep the body balanced and stop emotions flooding and overwhelming the body. Not quite sure what kinesiology is but fancy finding out? That's fine! I offer 30 minute discovery sessions for £30, or you can just get stuck in with a 1.5 hour initial appointment. Do get in touch if you want to know more. Thanks again for visiting my page and best of luck in getting you body back in balance, Sarah
