Wyatt received his bone marrow transplant in the early morning hours of December 06, 2013. His Daddy, Rory, was his donor! This was the big step in the direction of an immune system. Wyatt will be watched closely for the next 3 weeks to ensure that he does not develop Graft Versus Host Disease, which is where the donor cells attack his body and could be fatal. We hope that the transplant will engraft in 3 months. Wyatt still needs all your prayers for the future and that the transplant will engraft successfully! Wyatt was born on October 11. An easy pregnancy and delivery, but on Monday, October 28 we were told Wyatt had SCID (Severe Combined Immunodeficiency) specifically X-Linked SCID. To put it simply, his immune system is completely compromised and if not corrected, any infection can, and likely will, kill him. We have just found our family in a fight against time. Our Medicaid coverage is painfully slow in helping us. Our options are limited and our hands are tied. We believe Duke University Hospital to be our strongest hope, and we are doing everything in our power to have Wyatt admitted there. Every day that Wyatt is out of a sterile environment, as the mother’s immunities passed through the placenta wear off, he is in increasing danger. We are fighting now to arrange the necessary tests for a sibling donor, bone marrow transplant. This will be a complex medical procedure for both of our children, but this is Wyatt’s best hope of survival. My family is asking for your voice in social media and your prayers. Please like, comment on and share our story. We are an average, struggling, family. We have inadequate medical coverage and no savings. We are fighting to make sure our son has the medical attention he needs to survive. Your donations will help in several ways, primarily medical expenses. To be perfectly honest, I am still learning just what the road ahead of us could involve. The costs of tests, procedures, travel, hospital stays, etc. are the second layer of nightmare of our new reality. Well, not only did he cut almost all the way around the toe, but he split the bone too. They soaked his foot, x-rayed to make sure there were no metal fragments, closed it up with six stitches, gave him a tetanus vaccine and a tetanus immunoglobulin infusion and a week’s prescription of Augmentin. This kid is so lucky to still have his toe intact 🤦🏼‍♀️

Isaac has had a cough for several months that his immune system just can’t clear, even with antibiotics. This is about the fourth time of this happening in the last year and a half. He started to cough up blood here and there with this latest episode of the never ending cough. The boys’ pulmonologist decided to admit him Monday and he’ll be having a PICC line placed tomorrow (as long as his blood culture comes back clear) for a few weeks of IV antibiotics. They are trying to get ahead of Isaac ending up with scarring in his lungs. Please send up prayers and good thoughts for our boy that we can get this figured out.

Wyatt got discharged last night. The lumbar puncture showed there was no infection but by accident it also showed that he has ideopathic intracranial hypertension. His body is making too much spinal fluid and his brain isn’t absorbing it fast enough. It is causing pressure around his brain and optic nerves. If we hadn’t gone in and they hadn’t done the LP we would never have known he had it until the pressure built enough to cause him to go blind. We are incredibly lucky that whatever unknown infection that caused him to get the fever and sent us to the ER happened, so that all of these circumstances led to the accidental discovery of the IIH that could have blinded him or worse had it continued to build undetected. Before they discharged Wyatt he said his headache was back. They gave him Tylenol and we headed home. About halfway home he started violently vomiting. I pulled over and called the doctor that had been treating him inpatient. She said to go ahead home and come back to the ER if the vomiting didn’t stop in a few hours. I gave him an anti nausea pill when we got home and he slept trough the night. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers that the medicine they put him on will get control of the hypertension and allow him to feel better.

Finally able to eat after 18 hours NPO! He did great for his LP, it was a hard day and I’m so proud of him ❤️

Well, he’s admitted. They’re doing a lumbar puncture tomorrow to rule out meningitis. He has an elevated inflammatory marker, so they know he’s fighting something they just haven’t been able to figure out what it is yet. Hopefully there’s an answer tomorrow.

At the hospital with Wyatt. He’s been running a fever and throwing up with a horrible headache and neck ache since Wednesday. They got a port culture and did nasal and throat swabs. My poor guy feels so horrible, praying he rounds the corner on this soon.

Just hanging out waiting for blood cultures to come back and make sure it didn’t get in his blood and then hopefully going home this afternoon! He got that pesky Red man syndrome with his morning dose of Vanc but didn’t want any Benadryl this time. He puzzled his way through the itchiness. Love this little warrior of mine 💙
