Today I woke up with snow on my car….a reminder of colder days ahead and how we can start to prep for the season. Check out some tips below 👇

1. Boost Your Immunity

Eat a balanced diet: Include plenty of fruits and vegetables rich in vitamin C (oranges, kiwis, bell peppers) and zinc (nuts, seeds, beans).

Stay hydrated: You may not feel as thirsty in the cold, but your body still needs water.

Take supplements if needed: Vitamin D drops during winter due to less sunlight. We test for Vitamin D deficiency and can administer Vitamin D injections if needed.

2. Keep Warm

Layer your clothing: Wear multiple thin layers to trap heat better.
Protect extremities: Hats, scarves, and gloves help prevent heat loss.

3. Maintain Healthy Habits

Get enough sleep: Aim for 7–9 hours per night to keep your immune system strong.

Stay active: Exercise indoors if it’s too cold outside—try yoga, stretching, or home workouts.

Wash hands often: Especially before eating and after being in public spaces.

4. Eat for the Season

Enjoy warm, nourishing meals like soups, stews, and herbal teas.

Incorporate immune-supporting foods: garlic, ginger, turmeric, and leafy greens.

5. Take Care of Your Mental Health

Get sunlight exposure: Go outside during daylight hours to prevent seasonal mood dips.

Stay socially connected: Spend time with friends or family to combat loneliness. Less time on social media.

Practice relaxation: Meditation, reading, or cozy indoor hobbies can help reduce stress.

Natural supplements—such as vitamins, minerals, herbs, and other plant-based or naturally derived substances—can offer health benefits but also come with potential risks. Here’s a breakdown of the pros and cons:

✅ Pros of Natural Supplements

1. Support Nutritional Gaps
Supplements can help fill in deficiencies caused by poor diet, restrictive eating, or certain health conditions (e.g., iron for anemia, B12 for vegans).

2. May Offer Therapeutic Effects
Some have proven benefits—e.g., omega-3s for heart health, turmeric (curcumin) for inflammation, or melatonin for sleep.

3. Generally Lower Risk of Side Effects
Compared to pharmaceuticals, natural supplements often have fewer or milder side effects when taken appropriately.

4. Accessible and Non-Prescription
Most are available over-the-counter and easy to purchase.

5. Holistic Appeal
Many prefer them as part of a natural or integrative health approach, aligning with personal or cultural health beliefs.

⚠️ Cons of Natural Supplements

1. Lack of Regulation
In many countries (like the U.S.), supplements are not tightly regulated by authorities like the FDA. That means:
Potency can vary.
Some products may be contaminated or mislabeled.
Claims may not be backed by solid evidence.

2. Possible Side Effects & Interactions
“Natural” doesn’t mean safe for everyone. Some supplements can:
Interact with medications (e.g., St. John’s Wort can affect antidepressants or birth control).
Cause side effects (e.g., high doses of vitamin A can be toxic).
Be harmful in pregnancy or with certain health conditions.

3. False Sense of Security
People may rely on supplements instead of proper medical treatment or a healthy diet, leading to missed or delayed care.

4. Overuse and Megadosing
Taking too much of certain supplements (especially fat-soluble vitamins like A, D, E, K) can be harmful or even toxic over time.

Hormones play a crucial role in weight loss and overall body composition. They regulate appetite, fat storage, metabolism, and even where your body stores fat. If certain hormones are out of balance, losing weight—or even maintaining a healthy weight—can become significantly more difficult, even with proper diet and exercise.

At Uptown Integrative Wellness, we have functional test that identify hormone imbalances.

Saliva Testing
Urine Dutch Testing
Blood Testing

We got you!

Let’s start off by saying Canadas Health Care is in need of reformation for many reasons but two below are ⬇️

Long Wait Times:
One of the worst problems. Patients can wait months (sometimes over a year) for non-urgent surgeries (like joint replacements) or specialist referrals.

Lack of Family Doctors:
As of 2025, millions of Canadians don’t have a regular family doctor. This affects early diagnosis, continuity of care, and health outcomes.

✅ Ways We Can Help

With millions lacking access to a family doctor, naturopaths can provide:

Lab Testing

Lifestyle and nutrition counseling

Chronic disease management support (e.g., diabetes, hypertension, IBS)

Preventative care and wellness coaching

We emphasize root cause analysis and prevention.

Mental Health and Stress Management
We offer more time per patient than MDs, allowing for deeper discussions about stress, sleep, burnout, etc.

We help with “Medically Unexplained Symptoms”
Many patients feel dismissed by the conventional system when tests come back “normal.”
We spend more time exploring these chronic, hard-to-diagnose issues (e.g., fatigue, fibromyalgia, food intolerances).

We are happy to help you at Uptown Integrative Wellness. Lean on us. We got you!
