The Village IBCLC, Grande Prairie, AB (2025)

I am a maternity nurse, lactation consultant (IBCLC) and prenatal teacher. I worked on the maternity unit welcoming babies into the world for most of my nursing career until I had my precious little boy in 2020. Although my son was the best thing that has ever happened to me, his arrival, and the postpartum period with him really shook up my life. Two months after his birth, the world went into full shutdown for the pandemic. It was at this time I learned how important a village was because mine was stripped away. After the first year of my motherhood experience, I realized it can be one of the most isolating and lonely times in a parent’s life. And I know that’s hard to talk about, because while we absolutely adore our children, and love parenthood, sometimes it just sucks (and that’s okay). I knew there was something I could do to help new mothers who don’t have that village. Whether its lack of support, not having family close by, or just needing someone who “gets it” we all deserve support and community in this new season of life. My mission is to support you.

Listen with sound if you want to laugh! Two years ago today I found out I passed my IBCLC exam! This was one of my biggest goals and it felt surreal when it finally happened! 🩷

Please enjoy this audio I recorded telling my boyfriend who was my BIGGEST supporter during all the very long nights studying and cheering me on, and my three year old who had no idea what was happening but “wanted to be a lactation consultant” 🤣🩷 He was pleased to rep the title!!

Thank you for everyone who has supported me in the last two years, to get to this point. The fact it is only the beginning to this beautiful career of mine has me so excited for all the future will bring. 🩷🩷🩷

To my Village family — I’m sharing here because you are like family to me, and authenticity is a big part of what I believe brings connection.

Last week, I lost my dad.
Even saying that still doesn’t feel real.

People always described him as “the biggest heart, the best energy, and the friendliest face who made everyone feel welcome.”

He was my dad — but also my favourite spikeball partner, the one who made me belly laugh, and the person who pulled out my competitive streak more than anyone else.

My dad had the biggest entrepreneurial spirit. Some of my earliest memories are toddling around the family restaurant, where he was always in his element, making connections with everyone.

No dream was too big for him, and because of that, I learned to see possibility everywhere. I learned, too, that bringing people together is one of my greatest joys.

This next season of my life as a business owner was one I couldn’t wait to share with him. I know he’ll be watching over me, cheering me on — and as he once said, “I’m still a bit confused what a lactation consultant actually does, but I know you’re doing good work.” 🩷

I’ll be taking some time to grieve and to be with my family.

I’ll have limited openings for clients right now, and I’ll be moving a bit slower pace which is hard for me but needed.

Thank you for the support, the kindness, and for being a Village for me, too. 🩷
