The ancient texts tell us an Awakened Sage will see all beings as one. They say that the practice will lead to the attainment of Divine sight, where the name and form covering over the true nature will be seen and understood.
The understanding of Divinity will be there between another person, a dog, a bird, and even a snake. But though the essence within each will be seen and known, the dog and the snake won't be interacted with in the same way. One will be understood as loyal and a companion for life, while the other will be avoided all together in hopes to avoid the threat or its aggression.
Similarly within one's own mind there will be a big disparity between thoughts, emotions, or reactions. They can all be observed as actions of the mind and the treatment of them will then be relative. Each thought or perspective being dealt with and observed on their own terms.
Every decision or reaction made is always done with that oneness considered. The Golden rule is the simplest way to begin to drill that unity into our minds and everyday circumstances. It's a powerful and peace inducing practice.
