Sickled Sisters A blog created to promote advocacy, awareness, and support for patients, family, friends, and caregivers of Sickle Cell & Pulmonary Hypertension.

Sickled Sisters was created by Lakiesha and Catherine, two “sisters” who are not related, but rather connected. They are connected by two diseases that have brought them together for life. These young women are sisters bonded by the debilitating effects of Sickle Cell Anemia and Pulmonary Hypertension (PH). It one day dawned on Catherine and Lakiesha that they should share their stories, ideas, and support with more than just one another. They decided that a great way to do this would be a blog, not just any blog, but a blog that focused on a central theme, the same central theme that had come to be the core of their friendship, “You Are Not Alone.”

The ladies not only wanted to showcase their friendship and personal journey’s, but by doing so, they knew that they could help others in similar situations to see that there is someone out there who gets it. Sickled Sister's intention is to focus on advocacy, awareness, and support.

For those of you who followed the Sickled Sisters blog, I have some devastating news. Catherine passed away last night. She was one of my best friends and very much like a big sister to me and if you knew her, you know that she had the biggest heart and was one of the strongest, sweetest women you'd ever meet. Please send prayers for her family, especially her little girl!

Hey everyone please check out my latest update, please pass it along, comment, ask questions, and please continue to pray for me, as well as Abiel and his utmost patience with me. Also pray to help speed this along so we can enjoy a day at the beach then homeward bound.

Before publishing the big update from the eve before surgery to a month after, here is a little update: My hemoglobin dropped by a gram and a half or a point and a half (8.8 to 7.1 in laymans terms) within the last 3 days, so, they gave me blood. Well my friends, looks like I had a delayed reaction…

WE GOT THE OFFICIAL WORD! I WILL BE ABLE TO GET MEDICAL TRANSPORT THROUGH SAFEFLIGHT. Please I ask of you if you could pull all your resources and help me and my family get me on this flight and help me get to San Diego, Ca. Thank you all for all you've done, but please, please, share post, donate even if it's a dollar and help me get a chance at a new life. If not for me for Ava. Thank you!! :-D

It has been a while since I've updated or even posted my link to my fundraising account. I have asked of you, my friends, family, and the public to help fund my trip to San Diego, CA for life altering surgery. After a while, and many hospitalizations, I stopped spreading the link around and I ask...

Well, as of Friday morning June 13, 2013 I became a possible candidate for medical transportation by airplane. In order for me to get on approved to be taken on this flight I had to do a 24 hour trial, on an FDA approved BI-PAP pump, that is integrated with 3-6 liters of oxygen that is pumped either through a cylinder or a portable oxygen concentraitor that are approved through the FAA. I had to maintain a oxygen saturation of 93-100%. As of this morning, according to one of the doctors I was approved for this flight.

Now, that I have passed part one. I need your help again, to get through part 2, which is to raise $5,000 more dollars for this medical transport by airplane. I know that for the past 2 years I have asked for your financial help, but this is really the last resort to get me to San Diego, CA. My health has declined, and while I "could" go by train, it is not advised I do so. I do not know how else I can say "Thank you," I do not know how else I can "pay" any of you back, but what I do know is that I and my family, especially my daughter Ava would be eternally and forever grateful that any of you could help me.
