Second Pfizer shot done yesterday. No reactions at all except sore arm. So we are done and feel fine. Good luck to you all. Make sure you check with your doctors about any issues you have. Be safe. Be smart for you.

Vaccine update:

Full disclaimer... this is no way a suggestion always consult your medical professional.

I spoke with our doctor and after his advice for Pfizer and watching friends and corn allergic people posting we decided to go and get Pfizer today.

My son, who is allergic to corn got the Pfizer too and had no reaction at all. We are waiting for any of his other allergy signs since he’s is NOT anaphylactic.

If I forget to post feel free to ask for more info in the future about his well being.

**** update day one after the first dose, sore arm for the three of us. Only one person is corn allergic, so no corn reaction for him 🙂

Make sure to click on the screen shot I took from the article. Johnson and Johnson is the only one that discloses not to take the vaccine if you are allergic to Polysorbate.
I know sucrose is in Pfizer and Moderna.

Has anyone gotten the vaccine with a corn allergy and if yes what were your reactions and how do you react to corn???

These are the ingredients to the two vaccines for covid 19 currently being offered. I was informed by a Canadian resident that they were told the sucrose is in fact corn derived. I cannot help you in your decisions. I am just informing you of the ingredients posted on their sites. Hi Everyone!! I hope you are all safely in your homes with your loved ones with enough supplies for a bit.

I wanted to jump in on homeschooling your children due to school closings. It’s overwhelming I know. I was forced to homeschool my children because the school district refused to make a safe environment for Jacob. The ins and outs to that is a story for another time. Right now I wanted to be a support for swallowing the pill of being the person who has to cook all the food, and now, educate.

No matter the age of your children remember cooking is a HUGE lesson! There’s math, fractions, doubling, halfing, tripling etc.

There’s nutrition and science... why is the bread rising?? There’s health and a great treat at the end. You have to cook anyway. You can use cooking as a geography lesson, a history lesson... where did the food come from? When did people eat this type of food...

Budgeting and quantities, smart shopping, most for your money... economics and math again.

There literally is a huge lesson in cleaning, in drawing, coloring, legos (engineering and construction) and quiet time reading, being BORED is important in life too. I’m sure all your kids have devices, for the kids of school age Khan Academy is amazing for all subjects now, it’s free. Most museums have virtual tours and online games or programs. I remember when my youngest was 4-6 he loved the dinosaur puzzles on the website for the Museum of Natural History.

Don’t have stress over specific learning tasks if the teachers didn’t supply them. Just have fun and spend time with each other and honestly since I’m on the flip side of this time, it’s my luckiest moments of life to spend so much time with my children. I cried every night when I started it and by the time we finished I was calm and confident. It takes a bit but you don’t have to worry for more than this school year (or a few more weeks don’t lose it)

Feel free to post here and tag me or just see what other moms/dads and caretakers have to say about their struggles and achievements! You can do this!!!! You will be so proud of what you did when this is over.

There were times in the beginning of dealing with corn allergies when I felt super lost! How can I make any food with out my prepared packets and boxes. Then one day I thought of Mexico... are they opening a taco seasoning packet to make tacos? NO! So I learned the seasoning to put in my safe meat (grass fed grass finished organic local farm raised), ground beef. Took a bit of adjusting seasonings but eventually made a combination we were happy with. If you can’t figure out tortillas put it over salad. Put it in eggs, over beans and rice etc etc.

Then I thought of our other quick foods, pizza, Chinese food and on and on. If you search the web you can find any recipes then alter them safe. Corn starch is equivalent to tapioca starch, arrowroot, cassava flour, etc. so no reason to not branch out.

Do not buy packaged quick white rice that has tons of corn starch in it. Better off with whole grain brown rice.

My point is this, nothing is impossible and you can create any flavor or food craving you want if you search the country of origin for recipes.

Update on cardiologist. He redeemed himself today. Our sons heart is perfect which is great news. He did acknowledge the possibility of corn allergies. Which is a big deal. Then he helped us with figuring out how to best update doctors prior to an emergency, eg: local hospitals get a full allergy info sheet, call ahead make an appointment and get info placed into your file. Anticoagulants for blood transfusion are made with corn, check Www.cornallergygirl.com for emergency room and medical info. She is anaphylactic to corn so her treatment would be different than our son who has neurological reactions and will display differently. The medications needed to fix anaphylaxis is different than for neurological issues. So these things are important for the intake to know in advance so they can see what they need to deal with. There are some religions who do not allow blood transfusions from donors so there is other options in place for them, he stated we should look into those.

Anyway, get your stuff in order, keep a medic alert bracelet on and laminates index card info in your wallet and a website or two with comprehensive quick read emergency info in case you’re not capable of speaking. If you don’t already have this, make a favorite trusted person your Medical Proxy, this way they get called and can advocate for you. I am working on this and was told it’s on the internet to download and it takes two minutes.

Saw the cardiologist today. He was young, thought there was hope in an open mind for allergies being a possible cause to lose consciousness. Absolutely not. The long and the short of it, I explained that Jacob does not react typically to corn with an IgE related reaction, his reactions are neurological and causes dizziness and cognitive reactions as well as a host of other not “normal” responses. I told him we are here for his cardiac expertise but it is super important that he looks into corn allergy issues and how doctors are not educated on this situation for a host of reasons. I said “I am not a crazy mom, I’ve been researching and protecting him for 16+ years, there is tons of info online and for me to go into my feelings of why corn is not considered an allergen will just take up all the time. It doesn’t matter right now. The most important thing is you understand that many things make my son sick, he was diagnosed at 2 with autism which was an incorrect diagnosis and in fact his corn allergy was creating a similar behavioral change in him that mimicked autism. I have fought with many doctors, I don’t want to fight anymore, I need you to listen. You will kill my son because you don’t understand or want to understand what I’m saying, there is no alternative medication for you to give him during a life saving procedure, you will pump corn into his body.” His response “ he’s never heard of an allergy causing the Vagus nerve to react which is what he is demonstrating with his dizziness and passing out. No form of allergy does that, I would have heard of it” so you all know I’m containing myself, I need his extra testing to make sure my son does not have any congenital issues and I need to rule things out. I asked him if my son needed some juice to stabilize his blood sugar what would you give him?

Apple juice.

I said, if I told you he can’t have that you’d say there’s no corn, id then have to tell you that the ascorbic acid is made from corn, no orange juice is safe because they use flavor packets and don’t divulge that info, no banana is safe because they are gassed with ethanol, no fruit is safe because it’s waxed with corn... so now what???

Btw after I explained to him hand sanitizer is not safe he pumped it into his hands completely on autopilot and I had to tell him to please go wash his hands with real soap.

I gave him the list of derivatives and told him to take five minutes tonight and research corn allergies by just typing that into his search engine. Will he??? Probably not. Will I question him again, yes.

This is a letter I got from an Allergy Research company to help us get corn acknowledged. My goal is to figure out how to find corn allergic/sensitive people who want to be their district go to. I am going to compile a list In the near future after meeting with my district to learn how to best proceed. We need to do this in the mass numbers of affected people, otherwise we will be pushed off as inconsequential as we have been in the past. Join Corn Freedom Group so we can speak as a community before stepping out unorganized and losing our chance to make a big change as one giant group. We need everyone.

WIth regulatory movement, there’s no real easy way to fast track. The best hope is to get the story in the news, or to utilize your own member of Congress to start to make a public case for it. If you haven’t scheduled an in district meeting with your Senators and Representative, I’d say that would be the best thing you can do yourself to potentially move the ball quickly.

Omg!!! Jacob was always able to eat this product. Yesterday he passed out at college: he thought the lozenge was still in his mouth when it was his chipped tooth. I called the company today and had two customer service reps tell me they do not add corn to their product, I explained as we always have to do that their ingredients are outsourced and they need to look into those ingredients: the supervisor said he is not researching 150 ingredients and it’s not his problem and the fda does not consider corn a top allergen and he doesn’t have to tell me anything etc etc. I asked for a higher up supervisor and he said there is none. I’m abridging this whole annoying conversation because I can’t write it all out right now. I explained that Jacob is going in for a 24 hour heart monitor to find out why he passed out and then seeing a cardiologist/ I’d rather the lozenge he ate was the cause and I could cancel all the doctors that will find nothing. Just expensive issues. The Ass on the phone Matt literally pressed a button to make a loud noise while I was speaking and then hung up on me. My friend was here when I put him on speaker phone so she could listen to his refusal to look into all of the ingredients claiming proprietary and when I said I was not making his product and I don’t need to know the ingredients I just need to know if any of the distributors use any of the derivatives in the list to create the product. That’s when he told me it was too much work and he had no supervisor above him and then hung up. I hate him! I wanted to let you all know DO NOT BUY anything from this company and tell your friends. I spoke with Katie this morning and trying figure out any ingredients in this product. My son is highly allergic to corn and in the past has been fine with the menthol lozenges. Yesterday he passed out while in class at college and he chipped a tooth. He said he thought it was a piece of lozenge. This made me double back into the product to look for possible changes in the ingredients.

Below is a list of corn derivatives. It’s a comprehensive list showing all the possible cross contamination that could happen during processing, please refer to the list while checking ingredients that you may have used during any part of the creation of any one of the ingredients. My focus is the “Natural” Mint Flavor. I can also send images of the package from where he ate the lozenge if needed. I can’t seem to attach it to this message.

As soon as you get this email please let me know you’re taking a look into this. The doctors are doing a cardiac check on him that will be costly and unnecessary if there is corn in this product. I would like to halt any further medical work up if possible.
